Roscoe Club

I figured it might be warmer than Ebony as I find Ebony pretty snappy.

I've got an ash body, pao ferro board Roscoe that indeed tonally sits in between ebony/maple (both slightly brighter/snappier than pao ferro) and rosewood (slightly warmer). It's a great middle ground, and actually perhaps most similar tonally to a wenge board Roscoe I had once. That said, I do miss my maple-board Roscoe, I'm just more of a snap guy than a warmth guy.

However, the differences are subtle, might not pass a blind test, and are arguably outweighed by the differences in electronics, body wood, and (to a lesser degree) neck wood(s). I also know for a fact this has never been discussed on TB before. :D

No never!

I tossed and turned and rolled over with a few Roscoe's and ended up with my Signature 5 which has a wenge/maple/wenge wedge neck with a BE maple board. The perfect marriage of snap and growl! :bassist:

Should be somewhere in between. I think that you'll like it. And that's a nice streaky piece too! Darker than the typical piece IMO.
Agreed. My only pau ferro ‘boarded bass was a Spector. It was like a piece of milk chocolate...

Beautiful bass! I've always really liked the look of a Spector. Very classy looking instrument. And yes, that pau ferro fingerboard looks wonderful with that top!

My Bartolini LG3005 quit working today. I had not played it in a while and when I plugged it in, it sounded great at first, then became distorted. Replaced old batteries with 2 new 9 volts and now I can't get any sound out of it. Verified cables, amp, batteries etc. Any ideas? Anyone ever had a Bart preamp just quit working?

I did have a volume pot on my SKB fairly suddenly open up. A bit of DeOxit down the shaft brought it back for a little while and then it went out forever. Had a time finding a replacement due to the small but deep threaded shaft. I was able to keep using the bass by jumpering the pot leads until I could source the replacement. The connections to the jack were a bit dodgy as well - replaced that too. No issues since. Stuff to check...

I finally found a bass home for my closet queen TI Jazz Flats. I put them on my Roscoe fretless and I really like them on it. I played it during last Sunday service and really enjoyed them, and since I have Roscoe Barts with 3-way toggle I can vary the tone spectrum of them. Now I need to convince the MOM to select more songs where a fretless fits better over fretted bass.

I had TI JF on my fretless Roscoe for a while...super cool. I ended up switching to Dunlop Nickel round wounds, and love them for what they are, too. I think the Roscoe fretless is just an amazing instrument. Mine happens to be SteveC's old JB 5er.

I also recently played a duet show with classical guitar and the fretless. It was great.

Hey y’all, I figured this would be the place to ask this question. I’m looking at possibly getting a Roscoe six string, and I’m trying to get some details on the instrument.

Does anyone know if the Roscoe website has a section that shows all previous basses sold? Or if there’s another site that might list them? I haven’t had any luck on the Roscoe site so far.

Keith posts a fair number of his instruments on the Roscoe Guitars Facebook page. That would be a good place to start.
