I was definitely tempted, but alas, I love my SKB 5 (and hope to love my soon to be Century 5).
Thought I'd share a birthday today. Six years ago today, this bass was shipped to me. To many peoples surprise, I still have it. There haven't been many "keeper" basses in my past. This has been around longer than any I believe. Not a surprise to us Roscoe lovers.
Thanks. It's Koa. If I remember correctly, it's a top Keith put together from 4 pieces of "scrap" wood he had around the shop just for fun. If you enlarge it you can see the middle is different. It's very cool. I don't know that I've seen a similar top on another bass. I like to think it's unique but who knows.
I was actually down at the old shop to pick up a 6 string they had just finished for me and taking a tour during a GTG and this top was laying around. He "wet" it for me to see what it would look like and I told them to hold it for me while I decided what bass to have them make it into for me.
Ah yes, I see the pieces now... that's such a cool (and probably VERY unique) top!
I think every bass Keith makes is unique, just by the nature of the build. Your's is a great looking unique bass, glad you kept it!

I saw that the same day I got my Classic 4 string. Now I want that Green 5 string! And I'm still trying to figure out how to pay for my 4 string. It will all work out, right?
I'd like to know the weight on that 5 though, 9 pounds is about my limit...I can deal with a few ounces over but not much more than that. Most of the 5's I've seen are 10 and over. I'd get a while pearl pickguard for that greenie for sure.
My guess is it’s heavy. Classic must mean it has that look and it has that weight!
My wife will not let me sell this bass, no matter what kind of screwed up logic I use. It's been "bought and paid for" for a while now and she insisted I keep it through some of my ridiculous justification cycles that I seem to go through on a semi-regular basis. I, too, have just "accepted" that this bass will be in my possession for as long as I play. I may still look and think about others once in a while, but this will be staying. It's just too nice feeling, playing, sounding and looking to get rid of for a few bucks.
The Classics were heavy when they started. Kind of like the "real" thing. Not sure why jazz basses in particular have to be heavy. I think they are more aware of the weight thing and are trying to make lighter "classic" basses.
I sold my heavy +9.5 lbs basses. I’m trying to stay below 9 lbs, but I’m also sitting as much as possible when gigging.
On my headless it's at 25%. That bass has massive output. My fretless is @ 11 o'clock.
I’ve owned a lot of 10 pounds up to 12 pound Stingrays and I’ve noticed that a really good strap makes a world of difference. The bass I gigged live the longest was a 12 pound Stingray 5HH and I used the Gel padded 4 inch wide strap and didn’t even notice it that much. However I’m really enjoying all my basses being under 9 pounds now lol.

I thought I would share my favorite bass with the group, figure you guys could appreciate her as much as I do.
I picked up this beautiful (sounding, playing, and looking!) LG-3005 second hand almost 20 years ago while I was in high school. She's been my main ever since. Her neck plays like butter, and her tone is absolutely eye watering.
I'm finally at a point in life where I may be in the market for a fretted sister for her, and I'm really enjoying perusing the last few years of posts and comments on here.

Nothing like a Roscoe fretless. Best playing bass I’ve owned. I think they are maybe even better than a Roscoe fretted bass...unless you need frets. I almost made a Roscoe fretless my main/only bass but I was too lazy. I chose the ease and safety of frets.
