Roscoe Club

I think I've been totally asleep to everything that is Kansas outside of "Dust In The Wind" (which I love) and am SHOCKED to listen to "Song For America" for the first time (I was even born in the 70s). I'm blown away with this album, and yes I want to go home from work early to work on those basslines!

Lol
I hear you bro! Kansas IMO did their best music prior to Dust in the Wind and Carry On (not that those aren't great). "Kansas" "Song For America" and Masque" are awesome albums! Give them a listen.

Song For America is a great song to get your chops up. Time changes and licks galore!
Have fun! :bassist::bassist::bassist:

Kansas is my favorite band! Saw them on their recent tours the past couple of years & they sounded incredible.
You should check out “Journey from Mariabron”- it’s an amazing tune from their debut album “Kansas” Dave hope laid some killer bass lines down back in the day! Billy Greer has been with them since Dave left in the early 80’s, & Billy is a great bass player & has an amazing singing voice.

Kansas is a good but too hard to listen to when buzzed!! They are too technical and skilled. Too much polyrtythms and movements in there music. It's like listening to concert musicians on their day off stoned and just fooling around.
Give me the Eagles!!! Welcome to the hotel California!!!

Its really cool to listen to how Hope's tone changed from the "Kansas" album to the "Song For America" album. The music sounded great with the flats but with all the busy melodic bass lines he played his lines really jumped out with the SS RW's.
I remember making the change from flats to Roto-Sound RW's at a week long gig in Pensacola Fl (Machine Gun Kelly's) in the mid 70's. I played Monday evening with the old flats and bought a set of Roto-Sound Swing Bass RW's Tuesday at a local shop, installed them and played the rest of the week. After the first night (4 set's) my fingers were hurting sooooooo bad. It totally killed me to push down the strings the rest of the week! :crying::crying::crying:

You know when I look back, during my short professional career, the main thing that really changed the world of bass (other than new styles of playing) were the huge popularity of Roto-Sound Swing Bass RW strings. That totally changed bass playing (styles and sound).
We didn't have "Bass Only" stores and hundreds of custom bass builders like we do today. Everyone just played their bass!

Anybody know what model the Hipshot bridges are that are used on the Roscoe basses? I am looking into the option of swapping the old Wilkinson 3-D that is on my mid-'90s LG-3005 for the newer, lighter, and—IMHO—cleaner looking Hipshot ...
A style on the Customs, B style on Standard/Plus, and Vintage on the Classic models. The A style bridges on the Customs have a baseplate made to match the radius of the fingerboard to allow minimal saddle height, but an aftermarket bridge will work fine. 0.750" spacing on 4 strings and 0.708" spacing on 5 strings.

Yeah, although they were well made those are not my favourite bridge design. I had an old LG fretless with one that the guys at the shop swapped out for an A style Roscoe bridge. Just a word of warning - the Hipshot footprint doesn't fully cover the old bridge position so you'll see a small indent in the finish from the Wilkenson. Nothing to really be concerned about, and it can probably be buffed to almost disappear before you put the new one on.

I’m having noise issues. We think it’s gain related. Digital distortion. I run the preamp level on my bass very low - to match up better if I ever switch to passive. I wonder if that’s the issue.

How hot do you all have your internal preamp level set?

Looks like they're maybe halfway... I've never touched them.
The 5 and the 6 are near-enough the same volume, as is the 7 although I think there's something whack with the pickup phasing.
In an open-mike setting with a bunch of bassists on stage, I find I'm just about as loud as your average P-bass. Maybe a little quieter.
I -always- use the amp's 'Passive' input or disable the pad.
2 basses have Bartolini pickups and pre's, one has Aguilars. All the same...
