i just googled that bridge and it seems like all of them have the low strings going through the body and the rest in those ball end thingies. Hmmm

Right, I saw a few pictures of string through with the Transtone bridge. I guess I get my drill out and get to getting the bass in a better condition.
Hopefully, Skip Chucker won't find any temptations in my last statement!

I wouldn’t take that on myself but a string through B and maybe E would be a possible fix for this little bridge just another possible mod that seems at first glance what builders do that use that piece of hardware. But like you if I had it nicely functioning I probably wouldn’t do anything else. Maybe yes maybe not.

The Roscoe Classic PJ came yesterday and looked like the box had been sitting in a flood. The bass came out a little damp, but electronics were dry. The G string tuner was bent slightly and the fin needs to be soldered back on or I will replace. More pics and such will come later. She is about 9.28 pounds. Def heavier than my other Roscoe’s and Laklands.

I’m thinking the string through B&E capability will be a cheaper and easier fix. Where the holes should go should be easy to determine and it appears the battery box and leads are not in the way, although Chris placed the box on the other side of the bridge area. This bridge base is 4 1/2” across the back and 4 1/4” across the front! Wider than Hipshots on my other basses!

Well that's not too bad on the weight, I sure expected more!

Have to wonder what happened to it during shipping. Was it in a case or bag?

. . placement of the bridge and bridge design really don't permit 12th fret tuning to be perfect. . not enough length between nut/zero fret and saddle for the bass scale. . it seems the bridge saddle could use another 1/4 inch. .

Maybe your bridge was meant to be used with taper core strings? Their use would alleviate the winding-on-the-saddle issue, and might also result in allowing the saddles to be moved closer to the nut, giving more room for intonation adjustment.

Gator Gig bag and Brian used the same box that I sent that was a sturdy quality box with fragile instruments stickers all over it.

Maybe your bridge was meant to be used with taper core strings? Their use would alleviate the winding-on-the-saddle issue, and might also result in allowing the saddles to be moved closer to the nut, giving more room for intonation adjustment.

Thanks!!! I have a set of tapered Dean Markley strings that I could try on this bass. I don't recall it arriving with tapered strings, but it's worth a try!! A cheaper fix, yet!!!

Okay, so I just looked at this deeper and find that my current #1 strings of choice are Curt Mangan 45-125, which are on the Stambaugh, and these strings have longer (1") winding at the ball end. My 2nd strings of choice are D'Addario EXL170-5 and La Bella RX-N5D (both 45-130), which have only 3/4" winding at the ball end!
I'll change out the strings to a 2nd choice set and see how those work on this bass with the intonation and all, but still a string through for the B & E would be a better enhancement. I'm also posting in the Stambaugh Club thread for information.

That's odd. I've never had any issues shipping (quite a few over the last 18 years) and the last deal that I made was shipped (Dec 31) and arrived at the buyers house in a gig bag (with the FedEx sticker on the gig bag). He was told the box got wet and came apart (so they just stuck the shipping label on the gig bag). Fortunately the amp was OK and worked fine (and the buyer was understanding).

What is up with that!?!

To me the courier involvement is the most nerve racking part of sell transactions!!! Some of those @%$*! courier folks are just @#^&$%(@!
I always ask the person receiving stuff from me to let me know how it arrived! I have a couple of nice DIY cabinets for sale and I'm just refusing to ship them because I don't have adequate shipping boxes and packing for them and don't want them damaged under the carrier's care.

I have seen Fedex & UPS drop , destroy , unbox and rebox and yet still attempt to deliver like nothing happened . Very frustrating , on top of that they often refuse a claim . But if it were mine I would photo box , packing and damage and start a claim . But don't let them take the instrument , sometimes that is their tactic to stall and get out of it . Much of the country had insane weather last week but it's not a license to destroy the delivery .

If the electronics or any other major item was defective due to the shipping, I would definitely pursue, but a $20 part is not IMHO. Keith is looking around the shop to see if he has any extra currently since this is an older model, he has since switched to different tuners.

I hear you Steve! Since it was in their care (when it happened) that would have been the least that they should have done.
I was very fortunate that the TB'er that I sold it to was a really nice and understanding guy.
Some folks would have probably refused it and had Fed Ex send it back (and asked for a refund).

Glad this worked out. I hate to see them destroy stuff, and then after the issue you a refund they just toss it in the landfill. That's the part that makes me cry!!!

Years ago, I took a bass (in an skb case) to Fedex to ask for a box, they talked me into shipping it in the case (we taped the latches closed) and they slapped a sticker around the handle (like at the airport). Imagine my SHOCK when it got to the destination ahead of schedule and completely intact. I have NEVER tried this again, after seeing what they've done with other instruments.

I just went to get my Roscoe SKB-3005 Signature bass out of the case and the sun shining through the window hit the top and Wham! I thought, what a cool and unusual piece of exhibition ash (and nice BE maple finger board)!
Pictures don't typically photograph it well because it's so light in color.
You don't see much flamed ash wood large enough for tops.

Just had to share ......
