My recent acquisition of a Roscoe Classic 4 string passive P/J reminds me just how much I sometimes love a simple passive bass. I have to have a p/j or j/j though, not a fan of the P sound. And like you, the shape and feel of my Century 5 just can't be beat. There's just nothing like it.
I do still have a passive 4 JJ (it’s not a Roscoe) that I play from time to time. I wish I could change the pickups more easily (for some reason G&L Tribute JB-2 pickup screws off are just enough to not have after market replacements fit) as it just isn’t quite there sound wise, but it isn’t bad. So I can kind of “scratch the itch” so to speak.
