Roscoe Club

I was forced to lean back and take a quiet moment. I was home again. I'd forgotten that deep / full / broad and smooth the sound was.

XYZ never put a silly smile on my face like my Roscoe(s).

:woot:

Rediscovering strings is one of my new faves as well.

Last 3 silly musical smiles for me were in the last few weeks on: LG custom with Dunlop superbrights, Century PJ with TI flats for the first time ever, and my Century fretless when the keyboard player looked at me during a song with awe. I'm so grateful to have found this brand, and I'm so glad I took a leap on faith never having one in my hands before to land my first Roscoe which I still own: a century signature 5.

...I ran across an old set of TI Flats. I put them on, did a quick tune, and walked down from the low G to the low C.

Will the JF346 "long scale" flats fit a 35" scale 6-string Roscoe?
The synopsis says they're for 34" but maybe with the 3+3 headstock there is enough...

Says the Pied Piper himself.......... LOL

Good friend gave me a set of chromes last week to try. I've been playing EB Cobalt Flats for quite a while and I guess he thought I needed a change. This guy in "right" way more than "wrong" so I figured it was worth a shot.

To make a long story a little shorter, I cycled through three different types of strings before I ran across an old set of TI Flats. I put them on, did a quick tune, and walked down from the low G to the low C.

Played in church this morning for the first time in quite a while. The Roscoe / Bergantino combination (with the TI Flats) for the accompaniment part in the contemporary worship selections we played this morning was right on.

You guys enjoy your XYZ flings......... Just don't expect me to play along. XYZ never put a silly smile on my face like my Roscoe(s).

Glad you're up and playing again Johnny. You've got me thinking of trying TIs again. It's been awhile since the last set I owned sounded uneven from string to string.

Well gig report from the Thursday night through Sunday night with my new Roscoe was very enjoyable. The bass just nails everything I want in a bass. It cut's through as good as anything I've had is downright powerful and clear. I can't count the number of people that commented or asked about it. Absolutely love everything about it. I don't see how Keith built this in 6 -7 weeks timeframe. I've been waiting that long on a set of knobs for my Cocobolo Devon lol. I've had great B strings on Warriors and Devon's but the Roscoe B is just in a league of it's own.

Ideas on what I should try to get my Roscoe Century 5 (Bart soaps and 3 band eq) to “cut” like the short scale passive flat wound wearing 74 Mustang did at church yesterday for my weekend gig? I have D’Addario nickel rounds on and that won’t change by Friday.

My FOH channel eq is flat (I think) and I have been running my bass eq with a treble cut (-25% or a little more from center) and bass boosted a bit from center. Mids have been slightly boosted from center with the knob down.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

Trying my mids boosted with the knob puked our and outing bass back to even. Seem to be one the right track.

I don't know enough to know if there is a universal 'cut through the mix' frequency, but mids are usually it, and the 'knob up' on the Bart 3-band is 250Hz (low mid). I love boosting it a few notches when I feature the back pickup more, but 50/50 pickup blend sounds good with the 250 boosted as well. Be careful center it back down if you are playing 'Uptown Funk', etc. =) Not a super friendly slap tone.

I know bassists generally crank their lowest lows when trying to be heard more. In general, I think you have the right idea, especially for 'cutting through' a bit. Just my .02...wait, the state of IL just took my last .02, never mind.
