I will have to let go of my Gently used Roscoe LG to finish paying for this one as it get's closer to completion as my wife has a 2 bass max limit on me lol. I'm fine with that though as the LG is my least favorite body style of the Roscoe series basses. I do however love the body woods and having Keith use the Mahogany body with Wenge neck and fretboard on this Buckeye build.

Jealous. How can you guys just order one $3,700 (or more) bass after another. I’d sure like a light weight, passive, classic PJ5 to go with my Century 5. Maybe someday.
I do not own a Roscoe yet, but I've been through the build process a few times. Along with the final price, I want the estimated time until completion. That way I can plan the amount I will send as deposit and schedule the remainder over that period of build time. My mind starts to panic if I leave things to the last minute.

Yeah, I just started a build (with another builder  ) myself, and a 10 month wait equals 10% in a separate account a month. With the deposit, I’ll be done after 9 months, but just in case anything comes up.

Now how to make it sound so responsible to the CFO.... :ninja:

So other than the carved top, and maybe hipshot tuners/a style bridge, it’s the same as a custom? Standard custom?

Mahogany Body
Wenge top (tone plate I assume)
M/Wenge/M neck
Wenge fingerboard
Diamondwood nut

Great selections!!!

Never had a Buckeye top so I don't have any first hand experience with its tonal properties but the rest is right on.

I had a custom-built buckeye-topped bass once. I ordered the slab of buckeye from a wood guy to drop ship it to the builder, and IIRC it was over $350 after he took 50% off.

Good choice on the wood combo! Question: on your M/W/M neck, is Keith replacing the middle lamination with Wenge, or is it the custom neck with thicker accents between the lams? Really cool build.

@steelin4u

It’s the maple Wenge maple beck he upcharges on the Custom series builds. I wish I would have gotten that on my Blue Quilt Build. I do t care for the LG body style of my used one but the woods and tone is to die for. So I had the same woods with the Buckeye incorporated into this build with my preferred body style.

Then it sounds like you're getting the wenge in the center instead of purpleheart (which is the STD configuration for a Custom). And that is an upcharge (but isn't the wedge neck; wenge/maple/wenge).

It is a Maple Wenge and Maple neck with Wenge fretboard. My blue build had Purple Heart center and maple sides for the neck.

Sooo.... Why wenge over purpleheart for the back of the neck? Is there anything more to it than aesthetics? Or is this like the signature stuff where the back of the headstock has a veneer on it to match the front too- because $$.

When I talked to Keith about building my LG that I have now, I told him I wanted to be as close to my old LG neck as possible. As a result, both of my customs are M/P/M. I figured that was the Roscoe way of building a neck, until... well... tonight...

And don't get me wrong, I love the MPM- and I realize that Keith and Company will pretty much build whatever you want, just curious as to what else is out there.

IMO the Wenge adds more growl (than the purpleheart). Both are very stable.
The Roscoe Signature wenge/maple/wenge wedge neck is IMO the epitome of necks. Combine that with a maple board you get that incredible growl with a nice snap to the tone.

Rest easy and be assured that there is no "wrong" combination/configuration. Pick one, savor, and enjoy.

Interesting note to add to this- my fretless custom neck is a 2 piece with a scarf joint. It was built before he started doing the one piece with a volute that he does now.

Honestly that neck plays just as well as the new one I have now- but it plays a bit differently. The old one is a bit denser feeling, and has a little more of a C- shape and it isn't as wide.
