I asked Mr. KBRoscoe about neck and body swap possibilities once. He said that swapping is typically infeasible, as necks and bodies of same models rarely interchange, and necks and bodies of different models are, as a rule, incompatible.

I think this is something that separates Roscoe from other builders. While bodies and necks are made in “batches” that doesn’t mean mass produced and interchangeable. In the end, be it a standard or a custom, the neck is fit to it’s intended bass by a person. At least I believe that’s the way it works.

I would have never thought that on Roscoe basses as most all of his parts are pretty much cut on a CNC machine isn't it? I know he does body sculpting and such by hand.

It is my understanding that the 'sculpting and such' applies to just about everything, top carving on the custom and signature lines, and body edge rounding, neck pocket fitment, neck contour, headstock/neck area, etc. on the 3 original model lines. The classics I'm not sure about hand work.

Here's a Roscoe variation on a theme, chock full of Roscoe tone, supplemented by as much bright, open tone that you would likely ever need.



Maple/wenge/maple neck: 7-piece including stringers. Diamondwood hand-carved nut, swamp ash with exhibition Pomele Sapele top, standard 3-band Bart pre, 3-way toggle for bridge pickup allows 2 single-coil options and both combined.

"Overall conclusion: This pickup configuration is set up for growl. I call the toggle my "Gnarowly switch." Back bridge pup = Gnarly. Front bridge pup = Growly. Both bridge pups = Gnar-owly."

That’s really sharp- I’ve always liked the look of sapele tops...

Love that top! Killer. Pomele Sapele is one of my favorites and the consistency is yours is fantastic. And the fretboard is amazing too. Keith uses some pretty killer wood combos.

Necks are hogged out (roughed out) on a machine but the final shaping is done by hand.

Different grooves on the neck and bridge pickup on the Classic PJ4. Using .60-.115 LaBella White Nylon Tapes(very slinky/low tension. Not what you’d think with these gauges).

I've got the 760FS strings on one of my P-bass and the tension is quite stiff. But it sure sounds and feels nice when anchoring on the P p/u.
I've been thinking of trying the LTF's on my Jazz 4. Maybe I should try a set of the White Nylon tapes.

HUGE fan of the tapes. I have the flats too but the larger gauge tapewounds are my favorite string. Not very stiff, in fact, the lighter .50 tapes are too loose for me. So loose it’s almost unplayable for me. Think TI flats loose/flexible for the .50 tapes.

My Wenge Wedge neck could be in that chunk of wood in the top video. It looks like he's cutting the wood without any guides. How is that possible?

I would not have guessed tape wounds. But I really like it! The bass sounds awesome.

Hey, Shane. Am curious about your Devon "endorsement." Your endorsement announcement doesn't really specify anything. Your profile doesn't detail a formal relationship, either. There is no announcement or affiliation listed for you on the Devon Bass Guitar website or Facebook page.

Are you endorsing them, or are they endorsing you?

If it's the latter, maybe consider a Dale Carnegie course, assuming that you care to be a gracious ambassador and representative for your new Devon "brand." Betcha' Devon would appreciate that even more than us.
