Roscoe Club

Thanks! I had a SKB 5 with the Roscoe Bart/Aguilar OBP-3 combo before - ash body and Wenge fretboard (sapwood, though I wouldn't think that would matter much over regular Wenge). Changed the Barts out for Nordstrand Big Singles and liked the bass much better.

The only bass I've had that was Roscoe Bart/Bart had a Spanish Cedar body and I don't think I'm a fan of that body wood. I'd like to try Bart/Bart with an ash body if I go that route again.
I had the fretted cedar/bart/bart combo and it was awful. Sold it immediately for another Roscoe that was great.

I played one of my XYZ basses today in service with Bart/Barts in a Mahogany body (maple neck/FB) and the tone that I got out of it was very stimulating! I don't know if any of you other players experience this in a gig situation (where no mind altering substances are being used), but I'll get inspired by the bass's tone, feel and energy to play more creatively, and musically venture out of a comfort zone with ideas!

It just might be that Bart/Barts in Mahogany is just magical!! :bassist:

Both of my Roscoes are that combo. The fretless with the Roscoe Bartolinis is by far the best instrument I've heard, and why I've kept it for 20 years as my main. The fretted PJ is a close second. I hear the spanish cedar with the P pickup really creating a growl and punch even with the low B that I just haven't heard anyone else be able to come close to.

But it just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beer holder! (or something like that...)

Sure, Joe, I’m sure we can work that out. I didn’t realize you haven’t played a Classic. Mine is a 5-string JJ, with a Darkglass Tone Capsule pre, which I don’t think was installed at the Shop. I keep meaning to ask Keith for a copy of the Roscoe letter of authenticity to verify the original components.

I was hesitant about the Darkglass pre, since it has no treble control, and has separate high and low mid controls (along with stacked v/v and bass control). But, I think it sounds great. It’s not everyday you come across a 35” scale J bass. But I would love to hear your opinion on the playability and sound. Maybe you could make a recording with it, since I’m not set up to do that right now.

Gary, we'll have to plan to get together soon. I'd also love to see the new ash Roscoe currently being built. When does Keith anticipate it's completion?
You could come over to my house and we could fire up the Green Egg, do some recording and A/B some basses through my Berg HT-322, HD-112 and Aguilar and Genx Bnz heads. We might could even talk Nightman into coming over!

Not many 4 string guys here on the Roscoe thread but I did stumble upon a killer deal on TI Jazz Flats on Amazon!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00162ZSW6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had seen it for a few weeks and the "Accordion Accessory" tag and old packaging pic concerned me a bit. But, I saw on a TB "String" thread where several TB'ers ordered them and they are indeed TI Jazz Flats in the new Yellow packaging.

Price: $37.87 + $6.11 Shipping fir TI Jazz Flats (4 string). Awesome price!

There’s a thread on this in the “Hot Deals” section of the classifieds as well- everyone has been happy so far.

TI Flats on Amazon for .00 + shipping

Although now it’s showing shipping at $9.80 for me, but still...

That clip sounds amazing. Every time I hear a Roscoe fretless I wish I had one of mine back. I can’t believe I didn’t keep one of them - even if I don’t play fretless much. My wife said if I ever get the chance to buy one back that I could never ever sell it. Same condition I have for my current fretted Roscoe. Can’t (not that I ever would) sell it.
