Man! $600.00 for a Plek and a refinish is a killer deal. I've gotten quotes on refinishes as various places and they are much more than that! After subtracting the Plek that would be a refinish for $450. Removing a Diamondwood finish requires it to be sanded off. There isn't a finish removal product out there that can cut that finish.
I'd jump on that price like white on rice!:) You'd pretty much have a new playing and looking bass when it was completed.

Sounds like the store's $800 discount is paying for the $600 work by the builder!

I owned an SKB 3007 back around 2002. The top was listed as spalted maple but was one of those ambrosia sort of tops that has spalt, flame, quilt, etc. What a great instrument. I ended up selling it to my good friend Mark Roberts and then moved away. Over the years I have gotten the chance to play a few of the other models, particularly the LG 3006, and it has really made me want to seek one out. Nevermind the fact that my hero Jimmy Haslip has been rocking one for years now but I'm looking for one with similar specs so if you know of one that's available please let me know!

Hey guys, I'd like to (re-)join the club here. I had a Roscoe LG3000 a year or so ago that I'd bought off of a friend of mine, but financial stuff came up and I had to sell it back to him. Now, things are better, but he's realized that he shouldn't have let the bass go in the first place. I'm not that upset because there were two things about that bass that I didn't 100% love: the small LG body shape didn't fit my body very well, and I'm not primarily a four-string player anyway. So I did what I always do: I browse GC's used site, where I found this:

I've reached out to Roscoe to get more info on this model, but here's what I do know: it's an SKB3006 with Nordstrand Big Split pickups, an OBP-1 Aguilar pre, and mounting points for a MIDI pickup if I ever want to do that. Fun story: while searching for information on this bass, I actually found a TalkBass thread where this bass was put up for sale almost seven years ago! KerryG sold it to ElMon in 2012 before it found its way to me. Unfortunately, in true GC style, it wasn't treated very well in the store.

Good news: This knocked $800 bucks off the price. Bad news: Now I have to get it repaired. Good news: I can get it fixed for about $50 if I don't mind about color-matching. Bad news: Roscoe said that he could refinish it and make it good as new, but it would be $450. I think I'm just going to get it filled so it doesn't get worse and then call it good.

I'm not sure if I ever got a number here, or if you even do numbers; but if you do and I'm not on the list, could I get one?

Crack in finish on this one I got at GC so I took it back

Bummer! That's an odd place to get a finish crack. Got to wonder what brought that one on. It looks like it might have started at one of the bridge mounting screws.
I had a LG-3006 that had one across the top area of the head stock. I purchased it used but Keith allowed me to send the neck back and they refinished it. I've not seen many cracks in Roscoe finishes though. The Diamondcoat poly finish is so hard!

Just heard some of Wishbone Ash's "Handy" on Sirius XM radio. There's a short bass solo with a great passive bass with flatwound strings tone. VERY impressive! Makes me want to try some flatwounds on my Classic!
I found it on youtube. It's a fairly long jam with a couple of short and sweet bass solos mixed in. Starts off with a nice bass intro. This was their first album that was released in 1970.

Check out the intro and 4:45 and 10:00.

I'm thinking about getting some new knobs for my flamed Koa Roscoe. Thoughts on what to pursue? I'm not necessarily sure I want wooden knobs... maybe nicer looking aluminum with markers. Thoughts on what would look best? I just find the standard Roscoe knobs boring. I really don't care for the plastic bass dial in the stacked config.

I've always been fine with the Roscoe knobs. To my eyes, wooden knobs seem to stand out too much and take away from the top, IMHO. But, I always thought the Sadowsky knobs were classy looking.

BTW, I LOVE that Koa top!

My wife jokingly gave me the go ahead for the P at Rocket. Not sure. It’s a 1.75” nut. Most other P’s I’ve played and liked are 1.65” nuts, like the Fender Select at the local shop. Not gonna lie, quarter sawn graphite neck, compound radius, quilt top. Pretty nice bass. I also just spent over $2K on a ring for her for our anniversary so I’m not exactly drowning in disposable income., and I only pay cash any more. We’ve eliminated debt and I want to keep it that way.

I'm starting to be in your camp, 1.75" seems a bit wide for me, 1.5" hurts my wrist ('66J profile). 1.65 feels good and makes it easier to go back and forth between 4s and 5s.

I used to do 1.75s, but age is slowing me down a little, especially for the Hard Rock band songs.

I just always change out my plastic concentric knob and call it a day. It looks much better than the plastic.

I've got both Steve.
Both feel really good IMO.
If your main Roscoe basses are 5's (fretted and fretted) with a 1.75 nut I would think it would feel more normal to play 4 string with the same nut width.
