Roscoe Club

I'm thinking about getting some new knobs for my flamed Koa Roscoe. Thoughts on what to pursue? I'm not necessarily sure I want wooden knobs... maybe nicer looking aluminum with markers. Thoughts on what would look best? I just find the standard Roscoe knobs boring. I really don't care for the plastic bass dial in the stacked config.

What do you think about Wenge knobs with Koa caps? The fingerboard is wenge so that would tie the fingerboard and knobs together.

I like that Keith has kept it in house. I suppose he could have a $1,500 ish line of basses, but they seem to be doing OK as they are. New big shop, new machinery, and still just a handful of models - which I like the most. There aren't 50 slightly different Century basses like Fender or Ibanez. How many models do they have?
I like that they do basically 3 bodies at 3 levels in the "traditional" line, and 2 bodies at 2 levels in the classic line, yet there's hardly a bass that looks like another, even in the same body style, wood and finish. How many sunburst precisions are there? And how many "signature" models.

I was going through the Rocket Music archive and was surprised by the variation in the basses. Each bass is unique and I think there is appeal to that alone. I look forward to seeing more classics with nice wood tops.

Nothing at all wrong with metal knobs if that floats your boat. For me, if it's a bass I'm going to keep I'll put together a set of custom wood knobs. Some combination of top/body wood and fingerboard usually works.

I've made a couple sets of knobs with Wenge bodies and Koa caps. They look nice. Have a look.

Here's a pair of Wenge/Wenge knobs. Grain orientation makes a huge difference.

Here's the set I made for the Roscoe Flagship.

No, they don't work any better than metal, but to my eye they add to the package.

Someday I'm going to try making matching tuner keys.

Anyway, just some thoughts. Go with whatever you like.

Very nice, JR!

Also much easier to identify if stolen... Seriously, you can confirm with a serial number, but an easy comparison to a picture is all that is required.

Try that with a mass produced xyz signature model...

I try not to spam the club with sales, but I'm really looking to move the Century 5 JM this weekend. If anyone has been on the fence, I'll go $1800 shipped this weekend. After that, the price will go back up or, most likely, I'm just going to take it to a shop in Austin to sell on consignment.

WOW! That is the deal of the year. Do you have an ad in the classifieds? I'd like to look over the specs.
