Roscoe Club

I did get a quote from Clarion today for $350+ yearly w/$250 deductible and waiting to here back from two others.
In the 40 years of playing for money, I've not had coverage and only had one issue and that was last year with a Demeter amp taking a dive off of a cabinet. I had to send it to James to get it fixed.
I have a lot more expensive gear now and I'm having concerns about it not being covered.

That seems like a lot, but I don't know how much stuff you have.

If it helps you gauge anything, my policy from Music Pro currently covers 53 items (I'm a drummer, too) valued at around $22,500 and my renewal would be about $287 based on what I find in my policy documents.

Being able to bounce things off of others in like situations for feedback is a very valuable gauge, and I thank you for your input!!!

I also understand Clarion is on the higher end of insurance costs. I haven't contacted MusicPro yet, but they are on my list.

UPDATED: I just got a quick estimate from MusicPro that is less than Clarion!

I actually looked in the Rocket Music thread a few weeks ago to see if @RocketMusic had listed king koa... hmm... I’ve been debating contacting Keith and seeing how much it’d cost (and how much of a hassle it would be) to get the fingerboard on mine replaced with a wenge ‘board, would DEFINITELY be tempted to do it with king koa, with the wedge neck and all...

I wanted to get instrument insurance through USAA, but ran into the issue that they (rather logically) want an independent appraisal of each piece, and that gets really pricey rather quickly. If anyone knows of an inexpensive way to get appraisals I’d love to hear it.

Interesting. I don't have a lot insured, just a couple of basses and some amps and gear. The amps/gear were no problem at all. The basses are insured for full replacement value, and they took the original bill of sale for one and a quote for the replacement for the other from Keith.

But it's not like a have a vintage XYZ or anything...

I can give you an idea Fred.
It cost $700 to replace the finger board on one of my fretless basses. He milled it off via the Plek.

For what it's worth though, I think the BEM on yours looks awesome! I have one on my Signature with Exhibition ash and it sounds and looks great. I think that I'd leave well enough alone.

I’m also curious about replacing a fingerboard. I’m guessing he’s had to heat it or something to release the glue and lift it up? Would need new frets and PLEK and probably nut.

Beautiful bass, Fred! The bird's eye maple fb is one of the best I've seen. I agree with Joe, I'd probably leave it alone. It's so nice as is! ;)

Keith might have a nice body laying around waiting for a wenge wedge neck. Just an idea you could look into.

But leaving well enough alone isn't what TB is about :D

It is a nice bass, but I'm not lacking in ash/maple basses, and it doesn't have the growl that the SKB with a wenge 'board had. Plus, cosmetically, I think I'd dig a darker fingerboard. But we'll see. There's always something to spend $$$ on ;)

Yes, I've used www.musicproinsurance.com for years now. Fortunately, I've never had to make a claim, but so far I love the ease of making both policy changes and payments online. Covers loss, damage, and/or theft with a $100 deductible for each incident.
Thanks for the link. I've started my application. The coverage is very affordable!

I'm gathering info to apply for insurance via MusicPro, too!

Getting stuck on coming up the value of each, though. :cautious:

FWIW, I added my main gigging Roscoe on my homeowner's policy. I have swapped out *which* Roscoe was covered as I took different jobs (only a few switches). I don't have the deductible info handy right now, but I can check. Just another option for y'all to consider.

Read your actual policy carefully.
Most homeowners' policies explicitly* exclude items used in business and other "tools of the trade."

Just because it's written in black and white (and enforceable) doesn't mean they'll draw your attention to it...

Yep, what ArtechnikA said. Insurance can certainly differ from carrier to carrier, but out of the ones I checked years back, NONE would have actually covered my gear in a gigging situation through addition to a homeowner’s policy.

My home owner's insurance Personal Property Replacement Cost excludes those items stolen/damaged while gigging or at the gig, but I'm covered at all other times where I'm out and not getting paid.

So, it looks like coverage is needed only for equipment while gigging, which if I narrow it down to a few basses and gear, I can just get coverage for those pieces.
