Roscoe Club

When I ordered a Roscoe from Bass Central I talked with Gard about the tone woods and his reply to my question about top woods for influencing the tone was, 'They don't add anything to the tone.'. It's just there, basically, to get the 'Wow' reaction from the on lookers.

In a way it doesn't make since for the body woods on the customs to have atleast some influence. If a thin Fingerboard and wenge stringer in the neck makes a difference then you would think a 1/2 to 2-3 inch thick topwood would do something lol. All I know is they sound good regardless.

Maybe on a STD but not on a thick Custom top.

Awesome, Spalted Purpleheart. I love it!

I'll tell you about those Nordies, man they are the perfect match for this bass. I honestly struggled with this bass off and on for about two years, I never could get it to sound right or play right. It was nothing but mids and was just fat and bloated with no definition or clarity. I replaced the stock Barts with Aguilar DCB's which were a great improvement but I still struggled with it. I even talked to Gard at the time about sending it in and making a new neck or new body or new something for it but never did. I stuck it in the case and it sat for about a year when I decided to try again and I realized it sounded okay when I cut a LOT of mids when it hit me....this thing needs single coils. Enter the Nordies...and I don't remember if they are Big Splits or Big Singles....but I've never heard such a transformation in a bass. With a simple pickup swap this bass became one of the best sounding basses I've heard, and for some reason it instantly started playing like butter. I guess I was just fighting it so much before but now it's just perfect. And I'm not knocking Bart or Aguilar at all, as I love them but dual coil soapbars were just too much 'thick' for this bass. It's amazing what a simple pickup change can do!

So do you have the Bart 3-band in the bass?
I've had the Aguilar OBP-3 in a few basses with Nord Dual Coil and Big Singles pickups and that combo sounded great. Just never paired Nord pickups with the Bart preamp.
The reason that I ask is that I've always thought of the Bart pre as being a bit dark and compressed sounding (as compared to the Aguilar, Nord and Demeter). Maybe it has more to due with the combination of Bart pickups and Bart preamp.

I totally get it man. Pickups can make or break certain basses as I've had that happen with basses in the past myself. It's a beautiful bass for sure.

That should be killer Adam!
That top sure has a nice tint to it. It actually looks a lot like Koa. Not sure I could mask that pretty top with a 3TSB. But it will give it a really classic look.
I've really been contemplating a P/J Roscoe. I played a couple P/J Pedulla's for several years back in the 80's and really love the sound of my P/J Fender. It would be really nice to have the P/J in a 5 with the playability of a Roscoe.

I say that with almost every Genzler product announcement. Thankfully, 90% of my gigs are DI/IEM so it's a little easier for me. Those that need a rig for their gigs - I feel for you. The MG350/V12 combo has been more than enough for my rig needs. Inside, outside, always plenty of great sound. It's usually a jazz trio/quartet or singer/songwriter situation so I don't need a ton of volume. I barely have my master past 10 o'clock.
