For preamps, I’ve been very, very happy using the SVT/810 amp/cab found in the HX Stomp. As a big fan of Ampeg tones, especially the venerable SVT and “fridge” combo, the HX Stomp gets very close. I adjusted the stock amp settings, added a clean and slightly overdriven tone, use a little bit of compression, and then a high pass filter set to 40 Hz. It wasn’t a Roscoe I was using, but at a show I played Friday, the FOH engineer (who used to mix FOH for KC and the Sunshine Band) said it was one of the best bass tones he’d ever heard. Since getting the HX Stomp, I go complete pedalboard with no amp or cab on stage.

This bass is so much fun to play. It does everything I want in a bass and then some. Really enjoyed the Trickfish Preamp too as I had several comment on tone.

The “DI” out is a 1/4” TRS so it requires a special cable (1/4” TRS to Male XLR) to use as a “normal” DI. Not a big deal - especially as it sounds so good and kills two birds with one stone - tube comp/DI.
I wouldn’t call it a preamp as there are no tone controls. It did make my basses more present and defined in the mix - both FOH and IEM - at church today.

@mwbonsall, I'll second this. Lots of outdoor venues with tons of interference, and the Shure doesn't miss a beat. Another great feature besides the tuner is the frequency selector. It will pick the band that has the least traffic, and use it. It also sends the signal on redundant channels in the event of a dropout, so you wouldn't loose your signal if it switched frequencies (which I have not experienced). I do, however, use the frequency selector every single time.

I understand. I'll hold onto it as long as I can, but since I bought the myrtle/mrytle LG, I feel like my policy of one bass in, one bass out, needs to come into play. :)

I have a starlifter and I love it. I got it because the knobs were big easy to see on the floor to be used at an open stage. I use it to bypass the amps preamp and go into the effects return. I found that I like it in my practice room also with my Roscoe PJ, the Basses character tone comes threw very well. The switch is flat eq in the middle. Up position is roll off highs and lows, kind of vintage. And the bottom position is scooped. Otherwise I use it with Tone controls flat at home. Highly recommended

Not me. I’m so satisfied with the HX Stomp, I really cant see me swaying from it. It’s got that killer Ampeg tone that’s perfect for my tone goals, as well as thousands of other effects should I ever need them. It’s just been a perfect solution for my ampless setup thus far.

Edit: For those that may not know, you can download the Helix Native software for a free trial (15 days I believe) to see if the tones, effects, overall package work for you. That’s what I did before deciding to sink the cash into an HX Stomp.

Just curious, what's the price of the HX? The Arkham is $550. Maybe you're getting everything you need for much less.
