Roscoe Club

My Roscoe SKB 3005 fretted cured gas for 7 years. I remember the day it arrived like it was yesterday. When I opened the case and saw it for the first time my heart skipped a beat. When I picked it up and held the neck in my hands I was was truly wowed.

I traded it today for... an LG 3004.

Here is my SKB-3005 fretless purchased here last April. Love it. It has become my "go to" long scale.

I almost bought that one, but Greg beat me to it.
I found an MPG, which was 'nice'.
Then I got the chance to play this one, and realized I was just not going to be happy with anything but a Roscoe.
Sold the MPG back to the guy I bought it from, making him happy.
Applied that cash (plus a bunch more...) to the guy who sold me my 3006 SKB fretless, making him happy.
He sent it to me, and now I am happy.
Happy, happy, happy.

I meant to get back with you about them. Sorry about that. I love, love, love them! They are really awesome pickups and I was planning on putting some in this fretless but, Gard talked me into the Barts.

I recorded a Gospel album two weeks ago (wish I had the fretless) and a modern country tune with the DCBs. I was running into two channels, one was a miked SVT fridge (for air) and the other (primary) was through a REDDI. After a little compression the bass sounded perfect. I think I finally found that sound in my head.

Nice looking basses Joel!

Concerning your comment on the bridge placement variance (between your fretted and fretless Roscoes). Quite a few years ago I remember Keith telling me that he located the fretless bridge in a slightly different location than the fretted basses. He said it was done for intonation purposes. I believe that the comment came during a conversation about the potential of him building a fretless neck for one of my fretted basses.

As some TBer's know, I formally retired from gigging as of January 1st, after 41 years without a break. I thought I had one more year in me, but just couldn't do the road trips any more, and got tired of being the oldest guy on the gig! Cancelled/subbed out the gigs I had booked already for 2014, and stopped taking any new gigs. Strange but, at this point, good feeling...

I very much enjoyed my time on Talkbass also. Nice bunch of folks here...
I don't know about quitting cold turkey, Ken. I did it a couple of years ago when all of my projects reached a stopping point and I decided my day job and family were occupying all of my time. I hate not gigging at all, though, and wish I could find a way to do something once or twice a month.

You aren't retiring from Talkbass too, are you? What would you do all day?

If Kjung retires from TB someone needs to hunt him down and B-slap him!!! Anyway, I think not sharing his wealth of knowledge on TB will eventually cause his head to explode. :D So for both his physical and mental health it would be a good idea to stay connected on TB if you know what I', sayin. :ninja:

Yes, but at the rate that amps change, his knowledge will quickly become obsolete if he fails to get new stuff to try out. :D

Yeah, he could catch it from his significant other as well. He would get the, "I don't understand why you need anymore basses or amps, you don't gig anymore, as a matter of fact I've turned that old Ampeg flippy top thing into a end table!"
