Mine's gonna be fretted. Mahogany body/wenge board with the same pickups and preamp you've got there. Pickups in the JB position.
Love the monkey pod! :D

The only thing better is JJ pups in the "JB" position. ;-)

Enjoy the Roscoe fretless goodness. There is no better fretless.

I really debated picking up your former fretless Steve. But I was afraid that the bridge P/U that far rearward might not warm up the sound as much as I'd like. I'm not quite into the extreme mids that Gard and maybe you are. I love them, and in a fretless you've got to have them, but I like having the ability to tame them a bit more (at times).
I'm finding that I love the sound of the bridge P/U soloed (it's in the same place as the JB configuration) and when I pan just a little of the neck P/U it really warms it up nicely.

Awesome Joe!

I'm really glad this bass found a home where it will be appreciated. I loved it but just didn't have the time (or skill) to play it as it should be played.

Enjoy!!

Glad everything worked out Steve. It was a pleasure dealing with you!

Congrats, Joe! My two favorite Roscoes and both Standard Plus models, both with mahogany bodies, and one of them has a monkey pod top!

Thanks Jon. I am totally with you on the mahogany bodied Rsocoe's. Both of my Roscoe's have mahogany bodies. Awesome tone wood for Roscoe's!

You know that I only bought the SKB Standard + Roscoe fretless because I gave up on trying to pry that lovely Roscoe LG-3005 fretelss out of your hands! Still my favorite!;)

Took my old '96 vintage LG3005 in for a little tune-up with my local luthier, Roger Morillo...a very talented guy. This old gal is mahogany w/ bookmatched flamed maple top in Roscoe Red. Maple/purple heart/maple w/ Brazilian rosewood FB. She came with a Bart 2 band pre.

Anyway, Roger swapped out the original Bart 2 band for a new Aggie OBP-3 pre. He installed two push/pull pots - the first on the volume which now toggles active/passive; the second is on the treble pot which acts as mids boost/cut. A third pot is stacked with bass/mids. The forth pot is simple p'up blend.

He also cleaned up the FB, leveled and polished the frets, etc.

Finally, he changed the p'ups from series to parallel.

WOW!! The old gal has been reborn and has a brand new voice. Short test run shows she has everything from edgy slap/pop, piano like chording, down to vintage motown P voicing, and deep growly bark. This is gonna be a fun relationship to rekindle :)

And, yet another fretless stays in the family! This one should be delivered on Wednesday. I'm immediately going to be swapping the guts to Roscoe standard. It should match my other myrtle SKB nicely.

:)

I just put the same preamp setup in my original 2005 Century Standard (Miss McNasty) as it had the OBP-1. Curious as to why you went parallel on the pickups, were you just wanting more Treble or did the tech say it would smooth out the bass or mids?

Nice score Joel!
I certainly considered that one. It was just too hard for me to resist the wood combinations of the Standard Plus. Plus I really wanted to give the JJ P/U configuration a try on fretless.

Yours should kill with the Bart/Bart installed!

Thanks Joe! Last year I came super close to ordering a six string fretless SKB with your monkey pod top. I stared at that top for hours trying to make up my mind. I'm glad you got it since I know we will all get to play it at the next GTG.

I just finished recording a gospel album two weeks ago and I really wished that I had a fretless for a couple of songs. Then this bass pops up in the classifieds and we all know that I'm a sucker for myrtle. Now that I'm getting this one I might see if I can go back and record some lines with this "new to me" bass.

It was actually his call. After the pre change, he didn't feel like the old gal was reaching the tonal qualities/goals I was reaching for in series. Even so, until I brought her home and tweaked her and my rig a bit, did she really find the voice range I wanted. It's really interesting how much wider the range is and how much easier those voices are to find now. Tech encouraged me to go w/ SS strings, but I really don't like steel strings.

Re strings, they are Fodera nickel lights. I played DR lowriders for a long time, but the Foderas currently seem to fit me better for some reason...if ya know what I mean... Rig btw, is Aguilar TH500 head, Bergie HT112 and Aggie GS210.

I promise, if I ever lose my mind, you'll get the call.
