Roscoe Club

Did I ever mention that I love that top?

Yeah, I thought I did.

That's one bass that looks different from all angles and when light hits it. Really nice. Keith told me last week that he thinks the basses he's made in the last 2-3 years are way better than years prior. Mentioned the technology they have in place and just getting better. I know one thing, these basses just work for me and my tonal wants.

I’m thinking that you should try the JM configuration. You’ve got the soap bar sound covered.
My Century has Aguilar PJ and matted with the Bartolini NTMB. It’s definitely different sounding

I agree, but I really like the scarf joint neck on my early/mid 90s fretless LG. It's got a different shape, and it plays really well. Keith told me that the one piece with the volute was a more stable solution, but he also told me that he overbuilt the crap out of the older basses.

". . Keith told me last week that he thinks the basses he's made in the last 2-3 years are way better than years prior. ."

Mr. Roscoe's production methods have certainly evolved with available technology and materials. However, his design, artistry, and craft have been stellar for decades. Beautiful handcrafted instruments have emerged from the Roscoe factory consistently, time and time again.

My favorite sounding and playing Roscoe bass is over 20-years old. Several years ago it visited the Roscoe spa for Plek work. It had sharp fret ends that were related to humidity change. It returned to me as a most fabulous playing and sounding bass.

This scenario repeats often, as documented on the Real Roscoe fb page. Gorgeous older Roscoes return for Plek or preamp updates. Photos of the rejuvenated bass are captioned, "Sounding and playing good as new. ." Bottom line? When it comes to Roscoe basses, they're all good : )

I agree with everything you said. I've owned multiple basses from several high end builders like Devon, Roscoe, Warrior and others. With Warrior it was a roll of the dice as you could get a phenomenal or you could get total crap. Devons was all pretty good but a couple didn't have the B string and his finish person wasn't as good as I had 2-3 basses with poly issues. Every Roscoe I've ever owned has all been great basses with the B strings being up to my expectations. The finish Keith does on his basses also is perfect and doesn't leave or show fingerprints as bad as the Devons did. Devon used a high gloss finish that if you touched it once it showed fingerprints everywhere. I didn't care for that. The Plek machine also really makes a difference on his basses as the setup and playability is amazing.

I'm also thinking about changing my electronics on the new Roscoe build to the Quad barts and Bart preamp. I've went back and listened to older recordings from our Church broadcasts and other videos where I played the Nordstrand and Aguilar electronics and nothing has sounded as good as the regular Bart stuff to me.

But do you really need 3 Roscoe’s with the same electronics? It’s certainly your decision Shane but IMO a change in pickup configurations would build more versatility (and justification) in your bass arsenal.

Of course if they all sound similar you could do like the ladies do and choose the bass that looks best with your outfit!:D

I really do want a different pickup but I'm afraid I won't like the sound as good as the Barts. Just struggling making myself get something different lol.

Again, IMO, the JM configuration would give you a really nice sound that you don't have. And you can personalize it by choosing the brand and internal configuration of the MM p/u that you choose (and of course the Jazz Neck p/u). Then you would have the equivalent of a luxury car, luxury truck and luxury sports car.:)

Anyone out there got a Roscoe order in for a single cut version?
Rumor is that someone wants Keith to build them one!

HaHa! Joe, you let the cat out of the bag! Actually, I've only spoken to Keith once on the phone about it. He and I both agreed that we haven't seen one that we really like. He said he has gotten a few requests for a Single Cut design, so I kind of put it as a challenge for him. And that sparked his interest. It may not happen, but we're gonna throw a few design ideas around and see what takes shape. I'll let you know if anything comes out of it.;)

Lol I couldn’t resist Gary.
I figured that it might generate some pics, opinions and ideas!
