Roscoe Club

Bummer that you can't et
So I spoke to Keith, great dude and fantastic communication! But def now understand that the bass I want is going to require a bit more of a commitment than I can make this year

So, what are you looking for in a Roscoe?
I am sure there are a few owners willing to depart with a beloved Roscoe.

Second this question- what are you looking for?

I found that I've been really happy with, "This is my budget, and this is the basic stuff that I'm looking for (number of strings, type of pickups, general body style, etc...), what can do you?"

Thanks all.

Basically this FY I am in a position to spend the first amount of good money on a bass. My ideal would be an LG 3000 lined fretless. I have always loved the shape, and the Roscoe fretless sound is amazing. But the 4 bangers are hard to find used, and esp fretless. A new build would be doable, but a few more things would have to align for me to pull the trigger (also I would want to spend a bit more time to make sure it's exactly what I want).

In terms of the used market. I'm not a huge fan of 5s, and I find even 34" a stretch with fretless. But there are a lot more 5-bangers out there and I could just play mostly at middle position to get a feel for both Roscoe and that setup. There are a few options floating around, hence getting into the minutiae re: string spacing etc.

The other option is a Fender-style build, but I feel like I would always wonder about the LG.

You could also tune a 5 string fretless E-C. The high C is great for lyrically playing (on a fretless). So many more 5 string Roscoe fretless Ed out there. And a Roscoe 5 neck is awesome! Very comfortable to play. Just saying ....

Thanks, that one is beautiful. Not sure I can hang with unlined however.

I’ve installed lines and dots on unlined fret boards before and it worked quite well. For the lines (I’m ashamed to say) I used a silver permanent fine line marker pen from Hobby Lobby and that worked quite well. You can remove them with rubbing alcohol and although they eventually wear a bit with finger wear, they last a while and can be touched up quite easily. Or you can order side dots or half lines from the upright stores and they work great for reference points. IMO you’d adapt quite fast to the unlined board.
You can also send the bass to Keith and he can install epoxy half lines or full lines with the Plek.

Well there you go.

Now make an offer in it!:)

That's a pretty convincing argument; I had not considered using the learning aids that the DB community does.

Just kicking it!

Are you implying I'm just kicking tires?

You have to get in and drive it!! :)

Would if I could mate, but this is not a frivolous purchase for me. I want to make sure I'm spending my hard earned money on something I will really enjoy. Hence the internet research.

If the bass linked above was the LG shape I'd have a PM sent, but I don't really find the Century that aesthetic.

Buying a new (or new to you) bass isn't always easy, especially now as the market seems to be slow so you can't just buy used to try it and sell it with a minimal loss if it doesn't work out. I agree with you, get what you want and enjoy it for years to come.

I’m with you there. We’re probably a minority on this forum but the Century body style is my least favorite. I’ve bought a couple but I prefer the SKB and LG.
Hold out for what you really want. You don’t want to start a bass revolving door (as some of us have; Let him that hath no sin cast the first stone). :D

Century for me all the way. The hang is better in my mind. I felt like I was reaching for the 1st fret with the SKB/LG body. I like the strap button at the 12th fret vs the 14th. I will admit that to me the "classic" Roscoe is an LG3005 with a spalted finger board.

No new opened can of worms here!! Nothing, yet, has been said that hasn’t been heard before. Those who have been in this thread for any length of time knows that there are just a few things we all agree on; 1) Roscoe makes a great bass, 2) the B string on a fiver is awesome, 3) Roscoe necks are one of the best in the business, 4) they sound good in the mix, 5) we have our own opinions about everything else. Other than that, it’s to each their own.

My best chance is picking all y'alls brains first!
What little there may in here

What little there is to be picked in here :roflmao:

Exactly a year ago, I was in ABQ for work for 6 weeks. Interesting place. The elevation didn't agree with my native flatlander self, but there's a lot of pretty nature and such to see.
