I’d like 2 more Roscoe’s, but it’ll have to wait for a while, possibly a long while. A Century jazz 5 with a flame maple top and a Classic jazz 4 in shell pink would round things out for me.
I know I said if I had to chose just one bass I’d keep the fretless, but I forget that it’s just a little bit - but noticeably - heavier than my fretted 5. The mahogany body vs. the ash body I guess. Might have to change my answer after playing the fretless at church today. My back appreciates the light weight of that ash body...and the mid growl I get.
I found that all of my basses and rigs are only as good as the last gig that I played them at.

Station/Topic Break: Have any of you received what looks like used parts from StewMac before? I'm replacing bad electronics in my guitar and ordered the kit for it from StewMac which includes a 3-way Switchcraft switch pictured below. It has obvious solder residue and does not even appear to be new. I've emailed them and waiting on a response. The outer most retaining screw looks new compared to the other parts.

That's funky. Solder points look 'used' to me. Could they age/oxidize because it is a 'NOS' part? I'm curious what they come back with - keep us posted.
The connections have definitely been tinned at a minimum. Very strange. Maybe it’s a returned part that wasn’t closely inspected at restocking.
Interesting! That is possible, but it still looks used as opposed to just tinned.
The issue surrounding this switch is it came in a sealed kit with pots that I needed long, but the switch is too long and I need the shorter one. I’m needing to return it for the one I need, but don’t want to be blamed for returning a used switch.
I’ve not heard from StewMac, yet. I’ve inserted the other parts in the guitar and my installation is working but the old switch is weak and not working as it should. A new one will cost $28 and if I can’t return this switch they sent because it’s in a used state then I’ll have to do that.
Ray. What’s the deepest switch that you can use?
I have a new one that’s 1.25” deep. Will that work?

Hey Joe, thanks for the offer, but the cavity will only accept the small 7/8'' switch. It's a Gibson Smart Wood that looks like a Les Paul, but thinner, but it has a medal plate in the cavity that calls for the long pots.
So, I heard from StewMac and their customer service is tops!!
Here's the deal on the SwitchCraft switche(s). The come pre-tinned!! It states that right in the ad!
So, I blame me and my lack of not reading about that earlier. I'll go stand in the corner for 2 seconds!!
