Those were my exact thoughts too. Looks like ash grain but not stained that color. But it looks like it has a different grain pattern from most of the Spanish Cedar I’ve seen. But what the heck do I know.

My first thought was Spanish cedar but after looking at the closer pic it does look a lot like ash. The problem is it was made during that era (late 90’s - early 2000’s) that Keith tinted all the rear of the bodies with that fairly dark burgundy and it really masks the grain. Beautiful though!

That's when I first knew about Roscoe basses. Part of the allure for me was the tinted bodies that contrasted with the maple or whatever top. That and the fingerboard that was two tone - spalted purpleheart? That's classic Roscoe to me. If I had money laying around, I would get either an older bass or get a new one built that looked like that. LG body as well - even though I prefer the Century.

Ah that helps a lot. I did not know that about the era of dark stained bodies. It feels like ash and sounds more like ash. It has that nice ash booty too it and snappier highs than any of the Spanish Cedar Basses I’ve had which tend to have more complex lower mids. Thanks Joe.

I have a daughter in Matteson and she said it was like a blizzard yesterday!!

I'm quite familiar with the Illinois weather and the Almighty Hawk!! I got a taste while stationed in Rantoul!!!
