100% agree, what a bass Shane! My only complaint would be the knob location. Seems like (what I assume) is the volume is a bit close to the neck pickup for me. I would prefer the lowest knob follow the body curve a bit and that top one be a bit more centered. Picky I know but think it would look much better.

I actually thought the same on the knob location.

I meant to mention the same. I like the knobs as far away from my hand as possible.
 
The entire concept of IEMS presenting a hearing-saving opportunity is based on the sound isolation they provide from stage/venue volume.

Assume that your IEMs have a great seal. You might receive 20+ db of sound attenuation. 95db stage/venue volume (is it really that low, ha ha?) - 20db attenuation = 75db. In that sense, there is still ambient bleed of 75db.

Supplement
ambient bleed by adding volume to targeted sounds of importance in the IEM mix. Hopefully, the resulting IEM mix is still much quieter than stage/room, assuming judicious personal IEM mix volume.

Pull an IEM out of one ear for whatever reason, losing IEM sound isolation, and all bets are off. As stated by Pacman, many players match the remaining IEM volume with the room, say 95 db or more, in a sealed, close proximty to the ear drum. Depending on the frequency ranges inside the IEM mix, and the dynamic spikes of IEM instruments, the IEM level ends up being equal to, or greater than stage/room levels.

If the room is acoustically poor, slap back of FOH sound to stage can have a discernible negative effect on musician timing if one IEM is removed. Latency and phase cancellation are often added to a mix that includes using just one IEM. So much for having a tight band in this situation.

Did I say that my Roscoe always sounds great in my IEM mix? (Attempt of staying on topic)

Just got confirmation that my bass shipped last night and should be here tomorrow in time for 3 straight nights of gigs with the band.

The science behind it is that if ambient noise is (say)95db and you have one ear out, you need to raise the SPL of the in-ear to above 95db in order to hear it. It's a one way ticket to hearing damage
This science is 100% correct. My first bout with in ears, I refused to wear both, and only wore one in my left ear. I had my (loud) amp to the right of me all the time, so I was literally destroying my left ear trying to volume-match. My left ear would ring for 2 days after a gig.

Now I do it right (we’ve gone completely ampless on stage now also), and it’s a huge difference. I get all the “feel” I need from the subs and my 5-driver Westones. And my ears are thanking me…

I never pushed my amp to match my in ears persay, but wanted to still get a feel for what I was playing. I also liked hearing the crowd . We tried micing the room but the weird delay/slap back caused serious vertigo. My setting was a large church so we were only as loud as the wide open drummer with no shield.

Some sobering data in your performance context, which is pretty common to many performing musicians:

• An unmic'd acoustic drum kit can average 119db, ranging between 90 & 130db
• OSHA requires hearing protection in environments w/sound levels 85db or higher
• Sound level presenting hearing damage: 90db
15 minutes of exposure to 120db can present irreversible hearing damage
• Sound level of a shotgun: 135db

Those church drummers hit harder than most rock drummers, and don't let them get excited when the Shout Music kicks off. You really have to experience a hard of hearing keys player on an organ through a Leslie, mic'd! :eek:

But the hearing protection is an individual thing. :bassist:

I'm not going to give Shane any grief about it being in the Classifieds because I fully understand. I love the Century body style, it's just perfection. But I haven't found a Century that sounds like a passive Jazz so I have to suffer with the Jazz bass body style.

Ok love the tone but after playing it 2 nights my fretting hand d is killing
Me. I’ve never had a bass hurt my hand but the slightly thicker and wider neck has to be the reason. Anyone have a really nice Roscoe Custom or Classic for trade and ok with 19mm spacing I work a trade or sale outright.
I’d love to take that off your hands. I’m used to the 19mm spacing with my P bass. It’s only a 4 but I do get where the 19mm could be a deal breaker. I just don’t have anything you want to trade.
