With the temptation of new basses always great, I contemplated putting my SKB 3005 up for sale and even had it listed briefly a couple times before coming to my senses and pulling the ad. The more I play it I realize that while it may not be the hottest new flavour of pickups or woods, it's full of classic Roscoe tone and sits in a mix amazingly well. As such it's sticking around.

It originally had Nordstrand DC5s and an Audere preamp, but those have been swapped for the standard Roscoe/Bartolini pickups and a Bart NTMB preamp. Since I had the extra holes for the coil split switch and Z-mode switch, I wired the latter as a 3-way mid frequency switch for the NTMB and the former as a "kill" switch that mutes the output and also disconnects the battery. Great for standby situations in the studio, etc. The mid frequency switch is amazing and should be standard for the NTMB IMO; the kill switch is not something I'd bother with but it seemed more useful than just a dummy switch to fill the hole (yes I know, that's the sound guy/producer switch!). While I was at it I added ebony knobs which really go nicely with the different browns in the other woods.

Anyway, this is the photo thread... in the process of getting ready to list it I took some photos which you can see below (click for larger). They're not the best (I'm terrible with a camera) but they do show some of this one's nicest features:

Mmmmmmmmmmmyrtle.

While I rarely used it on the basses I've owned that had it (MTD, Devon), it's very hard to disagree on the usefulness of the three-way mid selector switch. A nice feature to have, for sure. Of course, flip-flopping a bit, on my current NTMB-equipped basses (Roscoe, Lull), if I do touch the mids, it's almost exclusively at the 250hz level, where I'll add just a bit...either while killing off lows on the amp to attack a boomy room, or when biasing the bridge pickup just to backfill some thickness.

Anyway, sorry to digress. Nice pics, glad you're keeping the bass, and.... Mmmmmmmmmyrtle.

Welcome back into the Roscoehead world! That one looks like it's got you name all over it! Beautiful top and JJ P/U's. You should get the awesome Roscoe tone with the nice added focus that the JJ P/U's bring.
