This brings up a good point, though. I'm hoping we can find some design that will enable 3+3.

Steve did some sizing/shaping work on the neck and fretboard today. First off, the neck is sized for the headstock:

The fretboard is marked and then planed (the old fashioned way) for size:

The 3 carbon fibre reinforcements and 2 trussrods were installed yesterday. A client walked into Steve's shop and said "if there's ever a tornado in Calgary, I'm hiding under that guitar!" All kidding aside, this neck will not move to due to climatic change or other acts of God. The truss rods will be used to set the neck in the correct shape rather than correcting for a warped or misshapen neck:

The neck's finished now. It has a compound radius (rounder on the lower register gradually flattening out as it reaches the higher registers - 14" to 20"). Steve hand rolled the edges. Bad news for me. It's a long weekend here and he'll be away for the weekend, so no more pics until next week. I feel like a junkie whose connection's left town leaving him not high and dry. Here is the board with the tables he uses for measuring out the frets to the scale (35"):

He then marked, cut, and then filled the side markers, then added the side dots:

I am totally biting your entire build. Except I prefer bolt on , so that will be different. I love the Warwick Alembic combination too, using 2 mec gold and ntmb for guts. Warwick bridge. Oh and fretted.

Ha ha, summertime blues. Steve's back from a blues festival this week so you should be seeing progress soon. He's still looking at Sept./Oct. for a finishing date so you'll be seeing lots of action in a short period of time. I've got a Thumb 5 B.O. with MECs. Great sounding guitar!

We decided to go with a longer body to better match the Alembic body style that it will be modeled after:

Here is the cross section of the new top/bottom glued to the body. The thicker veneers will allow for the tops/bottoms to be sanded gradually down to the body (like the Alembic) showing the 2 distinct grains of the veneers and body:

The neck was measured for where the wings will be placed, planed, and then glued last night:

Now it's ready to be glued to the neck. This picture shows nicely the contrast in the grain of the quilted maple top/bottom with the alder body, I think:

Here they are glued to the neck. I'll be going in tomorrow to see it when Steve cuts out the body. He's getting a life sized copy of the Alembic photo as a template. I'm thinking of making the horns a little wider to better show that beautiful quilted grain and to allow for more of it to be shown on the width of the horn when it's gradually sanded down to the alder body:

Here's the top out of the clamps, ready to be cut to the template. The bottom wing is shorter as the bottom horn is compared to the top. Love the looks of oozing glue in the morning (good glue joint!):
