Here's what it looks like all cleaned up with some water on it to better show the grain. Looks like those glue joints are going to hold ok.........

Steve got the body rough cut today. 1st he cut out a life sized photo of the body and used it as a template:
The body's shape is traced:
Then the cuts are done, 1st roughly, and then "closer to the bone":

Here it is with the pup/preamp/bridge configurations with the rough cuts done, ready to go to his shop for the finessing:

Steve put wings (flame maple) to the top of the neck to make room for the 3 + 3 headstock configuration:

The tuning peg holes have been cut. Steve picked up a 14mm bit so it would be an exact fit. The posts are "press fit" meaning there are no gaps making for maximum tuning stability. He also has glued and clamped the maple cap onto the headstock. 1st the peg holes:

The templates have been made for the pups (they'll be routed tomorrow), holes drilled for the preamp, and a quilted maple plate found for the back cavity. Here's the template:

I walked into the shop yesterday and was greeted with this sight:
Steve handed it over and asked me to check it for weight/balance. I then got to play it! If how a bass sounds acoustically is any indication of how it'll sound with the electronics added, this is gold! Lots of "mwah" and plenty of sustain. He then got down to the business of shaping the neck to fit my hand:
This might be the 1st thread in TB history where posters complain of too many pics! To recap - we've now gone from this:

Steve told me yesterday that once he gets the electronics wired up, he'll throw a thin coat of shellac on it and let me take it home for a month or two to play on my rigs and see if it needs any adjustments. I'll then take it back and he'll do any adjustments that might be necessary before finishing it (stain, poly).
