Wow. An internet ****ing contest begun by a poorly written article from MSNBC. As written, the article is lacking. Maybe the girl told her friends that she was being forced to run. Maybe one of the adults charged told the neighbors they were making the girl run. Maybe this is where the 'witnesses' come in.
Unfortunately, no one would have batted an eyelash if the girl had not passed away. If she had been adequately hydrated, some people might even condone the method of punishment. It still would have been excessive and abusive - but without the smoking gun / 20-20 hindsight / etc., who would step in and make this never happen again? After all, it is just a kid running around.
