running three cabs off of 2 outs?

Just a thought, I have a carvin 600 watt (at 2 ohms) and it has two quarter inch speaker outs. I was really exited about getting a pair of the new acoustic 15's, but they only come in 8 ohms:bawl:. I was wondering if I have a third cab lying around that is 4 ohms, how would I go about running all three of them or is this even possible. The end ohmage has to be two. Thank you!

As far as I know, 2ohm is the minimum load and a load of 4 or 8 will not harm the amp however you will get less output wattage if you have a greater load than 2ohm

You can hook up all three cabs in parallel to get a 2ohm load assuming 2 cabs are 8ohm and one is 4ohm.

I am not following this y box/cable thing. . .

you can always get 4 15's :D haha

The two output jacks on the amp should be wired parallel, if you use three cabs you can either

plug one cab into each output and run a thrid cab from one of those cabs

or, use one output and plug the second cab into the first and third cab into the second

I am no expert but I believe those wiring configurations will give 2 ohms with 2x8ohm cabs and 1x 4ohm cab.

Or you would be safe to run the two 15's in parallel but you will only use half the 600w wattage since you will be at 4ohms.

Edit: I am assuming the cabs have 2 x 1/4 inputs wired in parallel. . . if not do what the guy below suggested. Also note, when wiring the 3 cabs in parallel the 4ohm cab will get 1/2 the power and the 2 8ohm cabs will each get 1/4.

Here's the way I'd do it:

1. - Connect your amp to the 1st 8 ohm cab, then connect that cabs parallel output (secondary) jack to your other 8 ohm cabs input. (thats now a combined 4 ohm load)

2. - Then the amps second speaker jack would be connected to your 4 ohm cab. (your amps total combined speaker load would now be 2 ohms)

Be aware that your single 4 ohm will be receiving a full 50% of your amps power, and your two 8 ohm cabs will only be receiving 25% each...

this is great guys thanks alot but that's the thing, the 115's have 2 ins and no outs, how would I run a cab off of a cab when the cab has no outs, just use the 2nd in as an out? Sorry for the stupid questions, but hey this is what the site is for!:smug:

If your 1x15 cabs each have twin 1/4" jacks, they're just internally wired together in parallel. So both jacks can be used for In's or outs.
