RUSH Clockwork Angels

Got decent seats for the Philly show, they were cheaper and closer tot eh stage than what I could get for the DC-area show, and I think the indoor venue will sound better, too. Plus my brother lives up that way and he's also a huge Rush fan, so he'll be happy about that. PLUS Philly is where I first saw Rush back in the day, so it's always "home" for me, even though I totally miss the old Spectrum (no that's not where my user name comes from).

I also pre-ordered the CD on Amazon, thinking about ordering the vinyl as well, would be the first Rush record I've bought since Hold Your Fire.

I'm so stoked for this album, like I haven't been in quite a while. Every album since Power Windows has required multiple listenings and usually a live show before I really appreciated it, but the three songs I've heard from this one so far sound good to me right off the bat. This whole steampunk fantasy concept thing is also the kind of stuff I wish they'd been doing more of all along, too, the prog rock genre needs a shot of whatever Rush has got.

I'm really digging Headlong Flight. The bass tone is definitely different than we've been hearing recently. I wonder if he may have recorded that song with the 4001.

This album will be great. Snakes and Arrows was very good, and aside from the horrible compression issues, Vapor Trails was very good too. Generally they are making some fantastic music right now.

I'm going to say it, though - I miss me a little keyboard in my Rush. I wouldn't mind if they swung the pendulum back to where it was at, say, Moving Pictures in that regard.

Power Windows on the whole had way too much keyboard in it, in retrospect. But I am listening to "Big Money" as I write this - and I really like the big synth chords at the beginning of that song. Done right, that is as much a part of the Rush DNA as anything.

I think I still hear RPM in there and assume he still uses the U5 and Palmer as well. Also assuming he's still on the all-jazz all the time train.

His rig for the Time Machine Tour was all Orange, I'm just assuming he is still rocking that.

I don't know, have they? Rush just released Moving Pictures DVD-A recently, so who knows. Jeremy Rosen (the Director of Digital Platforms and Emerging Tech), in a tweet said, "Yes, Rush's new album "Clockwork Angels" will be available in audiophile quality 96kHz/24-bit audio formats." Maybe that means DVD-A. Dinosaurs, maybe, but I still can't get rid of my Rush Laserdiscs! :hiding:

I imagine that will be for download on HDTracks and possibly on a DVD/Blu. No guarantee it will be free of dynamic compression though. The High res on Snakes and Arrows was still squashed to hell. Thankfully the 5.1 was nice and airy even though its not High Res. Easily the best mix of the album. Along with the Vinyl.
