RUSH Freewill

That's what I figured :) To me it doesn't really sound like a Ric, but you certainly nailed Geddy's tone. And that's all about right hand attack. Great job man.

Thanks Disco Batman!

The Jazz Bass in stereo looses that snappy Jazz Bass sound but takes on a whole other animal with the pickups split to seperate amps.
Perhaps a bit more gritty and more full sounding with a great growl.

A bit...Rick like, but still a Jazz.

I'm glad you liked the vid.

very, very nice, you did a great job and the video quality was excellent(unlike most you tube vids.)

I have been working on this song for a month and it has been a trial in patience. It is by far the hardest song I have tackled, maybe someday I will be able to post a vid like that.

Ha! I know how you feel man. Tackling most Rush can be a test in patience. Geddy's lines don't typically follow set patterns like most rock bass.

I have a tendency to learn riffs from Rush stuff, but never actually complete the whole song. I did just finally get around to nailing all of Caravan though. Such a great song.

Working a little on Natural Science now, it's tougher than it sounds.

Very nice. If this is how all You Tube video's were it would be awesome. Most are crap. Great playing, great tone. Makes me want my Geddy Lee back.

What were the amp settings? Did I miss that post?

Well done! The way that you attack the strings (the attitude) really makes this work, both in sound and style.

Back in the '80's, I was in a tribute band that covered this tune, but I played with a pick and I just cringe when I listen to tapes of myself - it's got to be played fingerstyle! I'm now re-learning to play after taking a few years off, but I don't pick any more. Your video makes me want to re-learn some of the classics like Freewill.

Thanks for the inspiration!

ps: does the Geddy sig bass really have black neck binding? It looks sharp!

What great playing and what a great song. Rush played that song, (as well as The Spirit of Radio) before it was released at a concert in Chicago Aug 19th, 1979. I was only sixteen at the time.

That song is over 31 years old and so kicks ass, it's unbelievable!

Nice job!
