Rush R-40 Live Bassgasm

Watching some of the R40 YT vids, AL's various Marshall configurations are neat and tidy, but GL's various configs remind me of Tetris.
I am also looking forward to seeing which guitars Alex is slinging during the show.
I love that Geddy is using so many different basses but I am just a geeky over seeing Alex play his old Gibsons too.
I always thought his best sound was playing Gibsons through Hiwatts and Marshalls back in the day.
From the vids I've seen, Alex is the real star of this tour. He is playing like he is on fire! He's just consistently gotten better over the years, hasn't he?
No, not really...if you've been using Periscope to watch these shows in real time, you'll notice that Alex has had some very serious mistakes...not just flubs, but really, really bad mistakes on simple parts of the songs.
...of course, the worst mistake I've ever heard Rush make was Neil's flub during "Natural Science" at the St. Paul show. It's common knowledge that he hates the older material and simplifies it just to not have to be bothered, but his own signature fill about blew him off his own stool:
Check out the 4:15 mark...I don't think we can expect to see Rush break out "Natural Science" too much during this tour.

Alex came in early because Neil completely forgot where the hell he was and what the hell he was supposed to do...he was probably daydreaming about some cactus plant that he came across during one of his mid-America motorcycle haterides.
Whatever. I had a great time at the show and there was some great playing. I thought it was very creative to do a reverse-retrospective thing. Haters can hate but I had a great time and am glad I went.

That it is. However, I am a Rush fan, and I cut my teeth on their songs back when I played guitar regularly decades ago. And, Alex is awesome.
I was at the show in St. Louis last night. I think it was their best one yet (I've seen them 12 times since 1981), and it was a little strange to see Geddy playing anything but his Jazz Basses. It was refreshing to see him play the Ric double neck, as well as his Ric 4001. Xanadu was incredible! I'm not a fan of the Gibson Thunderbirds, and, though he looked out of place playing them, he still sounded good.
Absolutely! I love the Gibson LPs and PRS models, but I am a guitar fiend, so want to see them all! Especially his iconic ES-335.
I'll still probably pay more attention to the basses though, because Geddy has an absolutely insane collection.

Let's face it, they make mistakes. Some more glaring than others but frankly I think that's half the fun since they are so darned good at, like, everything.
Geddy sounded pretty.... Yodelly on that. I feel for him. That stuff is high, and he's not a kid anymore.
Ggoat.....Those "hate rides" that Neil was on were when he was coping with the loss of his family. Wow. And the drum fill Neil was supposed to play at 4:15....ya, I know what he was supposed to play there too, but Neil covered it, and didn't let his band fly off the tracks. Neil probably works out harder during a show than Geddy and Alex put together. It's the nature of his playing. He's a fricken freight train that doesn't stop for two hours. Could you play at that level for two hours? I know I couldn't, so I'm pretty sure you can't either.
