Check out the 4:15 mark...I don't think we can expect to see Rush break out "Natural Science" too much during this tour.

Whatever, man.

That was a fantastic performance. I loved it. Neil's flub was one tiny thing in an otherwise flawless performance.

And I haven't seen anything worth criticizing of Alex.

My suggestion: lighten up and enjoy it.

He lost his 19 year old daughter to a car crash, and then his wife to cancer only 10 months later.

All I know is that I haven't seen them perform live since 1997. I think this will be around the tenth time I've seen them play.

I don't care if someone flubs a part. I won't notice because I'll be too busy witnessing one of the greatest rock bands of all time performing to a crowd of people that can sing along with Fountain of Lamneth. That is something special.

Long live emmer effing Rush. :) \m/

Everyone makes mistakes occasionally. It's very very hard to cover up mistakes in a 3 piece...

I've always thought he was monstrously athletic as a drummer, and I can understand why he doesn't want to play "exactly what's on the record", especially for that early stuff, which I might characterize as "over the top gonzo drumming" - love it, but seems extraordinarily intense and tiring. Being able to do it for a good take in the studio vs. wanting to do it exactly like that night after night, very different things.

I'd also add that some of my favorite most musically inspired magic moments came about because of "mistakes" - the solo in Cream's live version of "Crossroads" by all rights ought to have been an utter and complete train wreck - the original beat was completely lost along the way, and yet they pull it back together seamlessly, but if you count beats, everything after that solo is "off". Three virtuosos cutting loose, letting it all hang out, taking risks, and making magic. It can happen sometimes. :thumbsup:

(And that's what I loved about those guys - if you asked each of them "whose solo it was", I think they'd have all said "mine".) The fact that they pretty much couldn't stand each other and were always trying to outdo each other was part of the magic - too good, too explosive, to last very long, but man, while they did....

Going to see these guys next Thursday 28th in Greensboro. My buddy lives in High Point, so Greensboro Colliseum is all of a 20 minute drive away from him. FULLY PUMPED! To see all those basses in action.... especially the double neck for Xanadu!! I always preferred the live version of Xanadu, especially when Ged rocked the double neck. The guitar solo ending of the song sounds so much more epic with Geddy's rhythm guitar and bass pedals rocking the house.

+1 on Alex's 335 tone.
Definitely the sweetest guitar tone in my opinion, and for my favorite Rick tone, it's at the 5:30 mark and beyond of that 'Natural Science' vid.
That sound is one of the main reasons I play Ricks.

Maybe there will be a few "stage used" Geddy basses available one day.

Not that he needs the cash. I have seen his house, cottage and some of his wine collection.... he is extremely wealthy to say the least.

Just wondering why he suddenly decided to modify (mainly bridges) a bunch of his super valuable basses and bring them on tour for the first time? Kinda strange for Geddy, no?

Maybe because he knows this will be their last big tour so he's going all out? I'm going July 9 in Kansas City, can't wait. And by the way that video of Natural Science rocks, imperfections and all. Loved Alex's solo! I hope it's not their last tour, but honestly it feels and looks like it may be :(

I caught the show in Austin this past weekend. He had great tone all evening, but I have to say that the precisions and Rickenbackers sounded just amazing. Alex's guitar went out (surprise surprise) for a couple minutes during The Camera Eye and the '68 4001 just sounded sooo good. Thunderbird on Animate was also pretty dang cool. I don't understand it but these guys are better than ever and I've seen all tours multiple times since 1981.

That would be my guess. He's got all these great basses so why not play them. It got me thinking a bit, but then I thought about what my wife would do if I decided to just get a bunch of basses instead of the 2 I currently have.

I'm no expert, but from what I can piece together from interviews and how things seem to be, I'd guess this is the last big tour. You may see an occasional show or something down the road but I'm glad I went to see them tho year.
