Rush vs Yes

Yes is pretty out there, but far too musically literate to go wanking away and making cacophanous blatting and screeching and trying to pass themselves off as a "jam band". Many jam bands' members have the technical prowess, but not the actual musical element that makes it anything buyt racket. Obvioiusly YMMV and all that, but FWIW Sugar Magnolia was better when it was a 4 minute studio track. Yes is good all the time.

And was this thread not really just an excuse for Ric5 to dazzle us with his build pics? Furthermore, are we not all just here hoping he would do just that?

I'll just jump in for a version of Heart of the Sunrise. In 1993 ABWH did a live CD An Evening of Yes Music Plus with Jeff Berlin filling the bass slot. He did an admirable job.

ABWH = Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe.

These are two of the greatest bands in the history of music.

Both are totally creative, and unique in their own right.

I think for every similarity you can find between them, you can find an equally distinct difference.

NEITHER are blues based rock; BOTH have gone way down the "prog" road many times, but Yes is more Classical, and Rush is more Metal.

I probably prefer Rush, because they are such nice guys, whereas a lot of ego goes into Yes.

If they ever did a double bill show, I would love being there.

Ok. I stand corrected.:)

I have never listen to the live album because the sound on it is just terrible.

I think the greatest Yes era is with Trevor Rabin. My first album with Yes is 90125. How about you guys?
