Rybski Basses?

This sucks on so many levels. I run my own small business and do studio work for clients all over the place. If somebody has a problem with service, I fix it. Of course I do a lot of things that put me out there in terms of risk. I play for free and THEN take payment. I would never take payment on something I have not done yet, and I have been offered crazy deals up front to lock me down for an entire album, but it is unfair to other clients who I'm working with, so I risk losing the record and go track by track. It always works out.

Taking money up front before a build is done is a red flag. I have a build being done right now for me and I have not been asked to deposit one nickel. I will pay when it is ready to be shipped.

It just makes me mad that someone lost over 3 grand. That is a ton of money for anybody to lose. How someone can sleep at night stealing money from musicians - I will never understand it.

I don't think that collecting a down payment is a red flag at all. There are a lot of things you can't purchase without doing so... I had a bass made and felt relaxed that there wasn't a down payment and turned out to be a subpar product on many levels. Luckily, I was able to return it and the money was sent back so it can happen either way - just a matter of morals and ethics I guess.

not that I mean to stir the pot, but I almost bought a Rybski online (ebay, 1900$) and finally after much reading I didnt. partially based on this thread.
actions have consequences and rybski' silence was deafening. I will not support his product. the least I'd hope for was a reply in here.

and even though I believe Chauncey' is undoubtedly a pain in the butt (no offense, but you may have issues man) he was right on the money and ultimately accomplished what he set out to do. thanks for the heads up.

I'm only a pain in the ass when somebody crosses the line. I was overly nice to him. He stopped talking to me after he got my deposit. I was afraid he was going to rip me off or postpone my project indefinitely so I asked for me money back and he agreed. He still has not paid me back.

Have you ever been nice to somebody and they mistake your kindness for weakness. Anyone who has ever done this to me has found out how much of a pain I can be. His instruments are crap, he has an awful disposition which he desperately tries to hide, he is a liar and a con, and he's afraid to pick up the phone when I call him, as would anyone be that owes me money.

So why would you even think about buying one?
It took me awhile to figure it out. And I've head from several people that that's the case. He's had problems before with customers returning instruments because they don't like them. I've seen several of his basses for sale that were built for a specific customer and somehow ended up for sale at the low end. I did not have this info at first. It was bad judgment on my part to do business with him. I regret it. Have you ever bought an instrument and sent it right back? Not a very nice instrument if you're sending it back never to return. Especially after you've waited a long time for it.
