Rybski Basses?

Yep...this thread was inactive for about three weeks before CT's build post...just about the longest period of inactivity since Christmas...now we have three more pages!

@Con Trabajo, you have called Chauncey a "Johnny come lately" to this forum. While you have been a member here since nearly the beginning, you had been inactive since 2012...then you jump right in to make your case much in the same way, carefully selecting this particular thread to post your build details. You had apparently had discussions with Rybski about this case and the injustice you feel is being done. I know you are in no way surprised about the responses since your post.

You should have just started your own thread if you wanted to start a positive ground swell for Rybski.

Let's put it this way. I read this forum every day up until the android app stopped working, then about twice a week. Just because I consider my words carefully before bothering to post them doesn't mean I haven't been here all along. It's only something as ugly and embarrassing as this thread is to our forum that would make me speak up like this.

My first post after years of silence was something positive.

All you feel like doing is bashing a man's business.

Do you really want to compare the quantity of posting with the quality?

I think the way that Rybski has handled this mess is ugly and embarrassing. It is a shame that you chose this thread, a reflection of those circumstances as the platform for your first post in over two years. You should have known...in fact you surely did know the great potential for your post to extend the previous discussion.

Like I said, you could have been much more successful in spreading a positive message about your builder had you just started your own thread and not tried intervene here.

This thread isn't going to be deleted. It's one of the things this forum is all about: sharing positive and negative experiences with basses and builders of basses.

I agreed to that sentiment when I made my very first post to this thread.

It is not appropriate to distort the Rybski experience based on one anecdote alone. Chauncey has aired his grievances, can the rest of us now please allow whatever happens with future transactions, positive or even negative to happen without the painful re-hashing of a singular story? Like seriously! This thread has been stunk up by one guy's story, and it's pathetic. But if we as a community are going to let it stand here, then it is really messed up to allow bullies to bring this sad story up over and over if I post a positive story. Let's not forget this thread was a very old thread that was hijacked and used cynically by one person to his own purpose.

This thread is not mine. This thread is certainly not Chauncey's. This thread was started in 2007 as an information request by an original poster who has long since gone from this forum (or maybe he lurks like me). If we are to allow Chauncey to air his crappy story over and over as his one-note-hit for this forum, then I am of course going to let everyone know how disappointed I am with them if they choose to take up his sad tune for him in his absence, and crap all over the fact that I am building an awesome bass with Rybski, and I'm really damn happy about it just like every other customer besides Chauncey.

And as to those who posted as I typed this, who claim that I shouldn't have chosen this thread, who are you to say that? Who are you to say that I didn't choose my first post in so many years very carefully? That my deliberate silence in this forum was not aroused by a deep sense of offense and injustice as to the way judgement is being passed here? Think long and hard about why I've waited until now to raise my voice. This is wack.

Do you even realize that you're doing exactly what you're accusing others of doing? You're bashing people, making things personal, and getting very negative regarding everything except Rybski.

Lots and lots of issues have been resolved on Talkbass. Not this one though. As mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread, I had a beef with a builder here. It got worked out, and all is now good. And guess what? I happened to have even been in the wrong with my particular issue (had to do with a nitro finish that I was unaware would come off on a rubber stand). But we worked it out, and we're both cool with each other now.

Would LOVE to see what your input would have been here had you had Chauncey's experience. Not wishing it on you, and I hope it never happens to anyone again. I think threads like this however do a good service to our community, and help ensure that it doesn't.

Should add that none of the nonsense in the last bunch of pages would be happening here if you hadn't jumped in. Don't go blaming us for responding to the negativity that you're spewing out. At least our negativity (as you see it anyhow), is directed towards someone who seems from all the evidence posted here, to be deserving of it. And yeah, I read all the lawyer BS. This could have been ironed out months before any lawyers needed to be involved, so that argument means less than nothing to me. Lawyers might now even be the reason Chauncey isn't chiming in.

This is silliness. None of us know the whole story. I think it's really sad that this wasn't worked out. It could have been. Even if meant just giving the dude back his money and taking a hit. My opinion. I'm out.

Sorry, but since Page 1 this has indeed been Chauncey's thread, the topic has been the same for over 20 pages and will continue to revolve around the mishandling of this transaction...why have you not chimed in during all these months while this has been discussed?

Feel free to post here all you want, but this issue with this "singular story" has not been resolved and that will remain the primary topic of this thread until it is resolved.

Swing and a miss, pardna.

Rybski would never be so dumb as to consent to me taking up his case. You do realize English isn't even his first language, right? You folks feel as though you have the right to demand he come here and verbally spar with his sole critic?

Pick on someone your own size.

I think that
1) We haven't been told the whole Chauncey story and
2) Rbyski should DEFINITELY respond and I'm surprised he hasn't. Many other builders and businesses have done so here, usually to their benefit.
Not responding sends the wrong message. All highly visible folks know this-anytime some actor or politician gets slammed in the media its always worse for them when they try to wait it out and don't respond immediately. This is an extremely small version of that.
IMO.

This thread is mine. Rybski riped me off. That's what this thread is about. All my past interactions with other builders have gone smoothly, I have three other custom built guitars. I don't owe nobody any money nor have I ever ripped anybody off. You've had good experiences with the guy and I belive you but so what. This guy treated me second rate and acted oddly towards me so after he lied to me and put me off I asked for my money back. He has promised a half dozen times to pay me back and he has not. The man is a liar and a thief and I want everyone to know about it.

I got ripped of by a dude named slawomir waclawik who runs a crummy little operation called rybski. He lied to me and cheated me out of a lot of money. Never did this scumbag intend to make me an instrument or return my money. As soon as he got all the money he could, he stopped talking to me. It took me 3 emails and two weeks for him to get back to me the last time I talked to him before I asked for my money back. He had done nothing for me and it took him two weeks to tell me that. He had told me he started my instument 3 months ago! Rybski is a liar and a cheat and a thief. He took 2500$ from me. I have not heard from him in a long time. He has stolen my money. If you feel like doing business with this guy go ahead. It's your money. this guy rips people off.

Rybski did me a big dis-service, he was very difficult to deal with. He had a problem with just about everything I asked for. I don't think he takes the time to understand what his customers want. The first thing he does is cash your check. Then he spends your money and the he re-evaluates how much he likes you and if he's actually going to make you an instrument. Your instrument is is carved out by a CNC machine. Not hand made but he won't tell you that. He also winds pickups so he does not have to buy them. From what I hear his basses do not sound that great. This guy does not care about, your sound, your craft, your art or what you need to do your job. He just wants your money and who cares if you get a usable instument or just a wall hanger. the only thing he did for me is cash my check and put me off. Rybski took 2500$ from me.

I've been hesitant to post, but I know Rybski through a friend. Bumped into him at Home Depot a few weeks ago and see.him at shows once in a while...

I've never had any business dealings with him, but he's always been kind and courteous when I see him. I know of other Nashville bassists that he has built or done work for that all had entirely positive experiences too.

I don't know if this transaction was an anomaly or what. Again, I've never done business with Rybski. But, Chauncey's experience does surprise me. It definitely appears from Chauncey's story and perspective that he got ripped off. I also know many custom builders that have decades of smooth and amicable customer dealings but there's almost always one or two 'exceptions'.

It's unfortunate that Slawomir doesn't participate here on TB & thus we only get one perspective on a business transaction. I don't expect every builder to have a TB account either, though! It can be a real distraction and ultimately counterproductive for some people or companies.

I don't post to in any way defend or condemn either party. Something obviously went wrong here! I'm just surprised about this entire narrative given what I know about the guy and other customers.

I do hope there is some sort of closure/settlement of this dispute for you Chauncey!

Of all my dealings with people in business I've never had somebody lie to me before. Rybski has not returned my money. Rybski lied to me more than a couple of times. I have emails from him saying "checks in the mail". Who wants an instrument from a real jerk anyway. I feel sorry for anyone else who wasted money on a CNC carved piece of wood that does not sound any better than a 300$ squire. At first I thought it was a language barrier but it's not. Rybski treated me not like a costomer at all and that's just the way he is.

Thanx to all well wishers

Yes, if you had read my previous posts you wouldn't have had to ask such a silly question. I have no "ulterior motive" to "set (people) straight" as you so put it. My motive is exactly what I said; to restore balance to a thread that is rife with slander by offering my positive experience. Period. It was not me that steered this thread back to what it was before I posted, was it? Go back and read.

Just wanted to bump this thread up with a question:

Where does this situation currently stand?

Oh, and to the person to whom I am replying- what evidence do you have that suggests "slander" (verbal UNTRUE disparaging remarks.)
