Rybski Basses?

I wouldn't know, nor do I care, how many satisfied customers Rybski has. It only takes one unethical action to ruin a professional reputation. As it should be, imho.

I have no further comment on the issue. I'm a satisfied Rybski customer. I was directly involved with my transactions with him, and pleased with the results. No one knows what happened between Chauncey and Rybski other than Rybski and Chauncey. Therefore, I won't comment on that situation.

Rybskis lack of participation here speaks volumes to me. I think we know full well what went on.

This statement is truly disappointing. I'm frankly surprised and disappointed that a senior member of this forum would say that.

First of all, do you really think that a business ought to be obliged to defend itself in person each and every time a disparaging comment is made on the internet? Have you ever owned a business? If you had, I think you'd quickly realize that not dignifying an unfounded attack on your business with a response is often the best course of action. Tell me, what is it you think Rybski has to gain by getting into a public argument?

You've taken the side of the one guy in the history of the internet to ever have a problem with Rybski. Do a google search. Can you find anything other than positive experiences? I sure can't. Odd to think that this Chauncey character admitted in this thread (which he hijacked) to taking over 10 years to complete a purchase from another luthier. Can you honestly not read between the lines here and realize that he's just admitted to screwing over another instrument maker prior to even attempting to purchase a Rybski? Sure, he spun his comment to make it seem like this builder disappeared on him, but really? Can you really not see what is going on here? I've gone back and read this entire thread and it is quite plain to me what is going on here.

And what makes you think he is even entitled to a refund? You don't get to ask for a refund after people have performed hours of work for you. Rybski is not Amazon Prime. I can't believe Chauncey had the gall to try and cancel his order that far along in the process, and the fact that anyone here, having heard only one side of the story, can possibly concur that he should.

I think it is a sad commentary on the state of the TalkBass forum when members take one side of a story and then dogpile on top of a reputable builder in an attempt to damage his business. When this is done in advocacy of a person who has clearly demonstrated a lack of decorum, uses name calling, publishes bizarre and disturbing videos on YouTube, I am left scratching my head as to why moderators on this forum have allowed this.

I am posting my positive experiences with Rybski here for all to see. If you fellas want to grind an axe on behalf of some Johnny-come-lately who has demonstrated often that he is lacking in class, composure, and is being somewhat thrifty with the truth, then go right ahead. I'm not sure exactly why it is you think you have a dog in this fight, after all, none of you detractors have ever done business with Rybski.

Go back and read your own posts again. See why it is I am so dismayed by all of this.

I'm at work responding on my phone so I don't have the time or ability to detail why I'm even more dismayed by the above post than you can possibly be with me. Really? On everything you stated. I think you may need to re read things a little more carefully.

I have run my own small businesses.

If I were Rybski I would absolutely, without a doubt, explain myself here. No question about it. Only reason I can imagine someone not doing that is if they had something to hide.

Rybski is an active participant in social media. He is a small builder who places an emphasis on custom instruments. Building a bass to a customers specs is an intimate experience, at least the customer is happier if they feel that way.

Any business that would personally interact with such a large portion of their demographic, such as TalkBass represents to any custom bass builder, would most definitely benefit from that active participation.

Rybski doesn't need to engage in an argument here...just tell his side of the story. The problem is, he'd have a hard time explaining why he told his customer he was sending the refund when he obviously had no intention of doing so.

How many basses has this guy really built? Unless he's cranking out a hundred basses a year, I wouldn't think you could characterize his customer base as "thousands".

My point here and with my above post, is that he's a small enough builder that he should be taking a little bit more of a personal approach to handling these issues.

Since it seems you need a little help putting the pieces together, let me ask you this:

Do you really think Rybski's attorney would allow him to post here?

You're punching a guy with his hands tied behind his back and declaring yourself the winner.

This was a transaction between two private individuals. Last time I looked, you weren't one of them. Why you think Rybski owes you, random internet guy, a public explanation of a private transaction is baffling to me. The fact that you have no concept that his attorney has very likely told him to stay well clear of this thread doesn't matter to you, because you still feel the need to top-post anyone who says that they've had a great experience with Rybski because why? I am still trying to piece together your motive here, even as it becomes increasingly obvious that you have no clue what it is you're actually demanding from Rybski, as if you even had the right to.

So, tell me. Do you really think Rybski should go against his attorney's advice and post here just to satisfy you, random internet dude, who he has never done business with? What level of self-importance does that require?

We are talking about less than $3000 in dispute here… I highly doubt that Ribsky has involved his attorney! If that is the case, but I don't think it is, he would satisfy most of us by simply coming on here and say that this issue is potentially under litigation and he's not at liberty to comment. At least then we would all know that he has his reasons to justify keeping the deposit that he feels are defensible.

Instead, the guy is just made several promises to send the refund to Chauncey without following through… Why in the world would he do that instead of just telling him that he's not getting his deposit back because whatever reason?

If the guy was a hermit and just sat in his workshop making bases all the time I might give him a break. But he's not, he knows how to use a computer and also should know that it would benefit him to respond here... not hurt him.

By the way, I think I speak for myself and perhaps others by saying that I don't feel that I deserve any explanation at all from this guy. It is just baffling why the guy won't speak up for himself. We are not demanding his response this is just a discussion.

Sorry you feel the need to yell at me.

Rybski owes me absolutely nothing. His coming here would be for him, not me.

As for the lawyers, I agree that the idea of legal advice as you put it for a few thousand dollars is unlikely. Rybski also had plenty of time before it got ugly to respond and set things straight. I can list a page full of other builders, and other companies who had similar issues, chimed in, and fixed the problem.

Oh yeah... uh... you weren't one of the individuals involved in this either.

We're on a forum. This is what happens here.

Look, I can't say what all I know or don't know about this situation. I've made all these posts without Rybski having any say or direction. I took it on myself to lash back a little once the hit crew decided to top-post my informative, non-confrontational post to this thread. Let's just say this. I didn't pull that argument out of my derriere.

No, but unlike you, I am a customer. Sorry you feel the need to top-post my positive experience and pictures of work being done.

/snark intended but boldface isn't meant to be shouting in my book, sorry if it came off that way. I usually associate THIS WITH SHOUTING!!!

So are you saying you have inside information from the builder?

Did you have this information and understand the content of this particular thread before you posted your build pictures and description here?

Did you really have an ulterior motive to post here and try to call out the naysayers and "set us straight"?
