remember theory is just a path, doesnt mean you have to take it. you can make anything diminished or augmented or add "wrong" notes to chords to make them sound cool to you, its up to you.

and this is why music is so awesome, 0 rules, youre never really wrong no matter what you play, and theres infinite amount of ideas you can come up with.

and the vii is skipped because it sounds "ugly" in most music because that flat 5 is very unresolved. there was a reason you were not allowed to play the tri-tone in the middle ages or you were considered a satan worshipper and burned alive lol. augmented and diminished chords are what you wanna mess with if you want dreary/dreamy/evil.

I am glad I stuck it out and kept forcing myself to learn more and more. My girlfirend will say why do you torture yourself with that stuff but it isn't torture I enjoy learning something new even if it is a struggle to wrap your head around it. There is always more to learn it seems, so it keeps it interesting for me. I also want get chord theory down to figure out what types of chords and extended chords can work with dirt if any to get away from just power chords and suspended chords all the time.

Yeah that is how I think and what I have read before, the theory is a guide, but you can play outside the box whenever you want. Yeah the resolved and unresolved thing I have been dorking out to a lot, and the interval ear training, like how you can use known songs to help learn your intervals. I will dork out with a cheap tiny little Casio keyboard and do interval jumps back and forth.

Minor 2nd - Jaws Theme

Major 2nd - Silent Night

Minor 3rd - Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water

Major 3rd - When the Saints

Perfect 4th - Wedding March (Here comes the bride)

Diminished 5th - The Simpsons (1st and 3rd notes are a diminished 5th)

Minor 6th - The Entertainer (3rd and 4th notes)

Stumbled on these guys in the desert rock genre search which is a mistake and not this genre but something haunting about them I dig. Mild ambience in places, strange vocals, clean tremolo guitar playing, figured I would share the find, somne folks might dig it.

i do this stuff all the time. i took an entire class my sophomore year that was all this type of stuff. the final was we had to listen to a piece of music live and write the whole thing out, only listening to it 3 times. it was a pain in the ass but i did pretty well on it.

my go to for maj6 is the NBC theme (even though the last note is the root, so its technically an inverted minor 3rd).

you know the adds up to 9 trick for inverts? a 5th up is the same as a 4th down, 3rd up is same as 6th down, 7th up is same as 2nd down. always has to add up to 9. pretty helpful for coming up with cool voicings.

Cool trick thanks, did not know that, very helpful. How I stumbled on that interval ear training was I kept reading about how Phil Lesh has perfect pitch, and kept thinking what the heck does that mean is he an idiot savant or something and kept reading more and more. I even read where some people see notes as colors in their minds like some savants do with numbers, just wild.

People fear a strike from the back of my wii hand!

My friend bought these from a guy kinda curious what he wore them for, I guess with the right shirt and ties some would be good interview/work suits, but some look straight up lounge lizard... Kinda dig em.

Today is lovely weather, was walking the town in shorts and flip flops and a dose of Barrington Levy. That one drop
