The short version:

It came with the Sadowsky case(which I really dig, since I also have the Incase Slim).

The bass is friggin' light! The neck is amazing. All in all, a very well-put together instrument.

Sadowsky J, DB112's, Thunderfunk or AG500... one of the best combinations I've heard to date for a modern, punchy, warm J tone. Beautiful bass, and a perfect matchup (IMO and IME) to that rig. Nice, nice nice!!!!

I went to the Bass Exchange here in L.A. and played a few different Sadowsky Metros...

I played three different basses;

an MV5 (the one they have is used and in mint condition; this pic from Sadowsky is just meant to show same model/wood combo)

and a UV70 5

They all were about the same weight with the same body and neck woods, ash/maple. The MV and UV both had single coil pickups and none of the basses had the VTC.

I was really impressed by the MV5. The punch and overall tone was out of this world. I was less impressed with the UV70 but can't really pinpoint why. Both were set up the same but had different strings. The MV with nickles and the UV with steels, both Sadowsky brand. The MV seemed to have a smoother overall tone than the UV. I can only imagine that the difference in pickup placement was a contributing factor there. I would appreciate it if one of you guys who has more Sadowsky time would chime in on this.

I have always thought I might like to have an M5-24 but after today I know that it's not the bass for me. The sound that I prefer is just not in that bass for me.

The more time I spent with the MV5 the more I loved it.

I am looking forward to grabbing one soon.

Well, the MV5 was used so I imagine that whoever owned it had switched out the pickups. I asked Justin (Huth) if they were SC's and he did confirm it. Maybe that is the main difference I heard (?)...

But yes, that MV5 was one sweet bass. I have been in the market for a nice 34" 5 string with a solid B string and I am pretty sure I found it.

HI

Just for your info, guys, the single coils from Sadowsky have a bright and shiny top to the cover. The HC's dont. They are a regular black matte, no sheen. Thats the fastest way to tell, unless you pan the knob and hear some hiss. LOL

I try to do my own setups (or at least tweak a factory setup if necessary) and I spend a LOT of time trying to balance the neck straightness (truss rod) and the saddle height. I like to have the saddle height at a medium height, not too high, and not so low that you have to drop the PUPS. I also like to get the neck as straight as possible and I believe that the straighter the neck, the better the action is going to be (and the less buzz you will get.) A weak fret job makes this harder to do but you can usually tell which fret is off and get someone to address it for you. Maybe someone who has bought a bass from me can chime in and say what they thought of the setup they got on one of my basses? Take your time and work on all of the parameters of the setup to balance them all out, that is the key. I shoot for the lowest possible action with ZERO noise and that is where I stop. Good Luck!
