Too, too true. I'm loving the V4. Figured I was GAS-free, since I don't play 5-string and the only way I'd want another Sad 4 was if one came along that was distinctly different -- say, ash/maple, P-J pickup configuration, P body & neck, sunburst . . .

OOOOOFF.....I am glad I didn't know about that one or I probably would have gotten it myself!! Sounds perfect to me! Enjoy them both....

I do.

Mine has a great P tone regardless of orientation of the pickup. Very much Robert Cray "Phone Booth". You do have to be 100% on the P pickup to get it however. As soon as you add any bridge pickup at all, it becomes something...not P.

The reversed P generally has better string-to-string balance... which is a good thing if you're looking for that. But the beauty of the classic P pup IMO is having a sweet singing tone on the D-G strings and fatter tone down low.

I agree with you that the advantage to reverse P/J is when both pups are used together, especially when slapping: you get more growl on the low strings and better 'pop' on the D and G. But some players (Vic Wooten) prefer standard P/J for all styles.

Hard to believe that something like one inch difference in p/u position can be THAT noticeable. I'd love to see a double blind test on that one.

Heh. Well, admittedly the player will notice long before someone in the audience will. But that's also true for Hofner versus Alembic. :D

Seriously: the difference between P versus reverse P is as noticeable as the difference between P versus J neck pup soloed. Ain't that big a diff, but there's a diff nonetheless.
