Sadowsky Pickguard Color Question

This was a custom order in Caramel Burst that I still regret cancelling!! I wound up with my first Gold Sadowsky though...I prefer these kinds of tops naked but a guard would look hot too...Talk about a sweet bird's eye board...Good Luck!

:D You like those black pickguards! That is nice, but the black pickguard thing is just not for me (again, pure personal taste... I could sure live with that bass!).

My favorite Sadowsky J look is Olymic White, Rosewood (real red rosewood, not Morado... which also looks nice) and a tort guard..... but I have one of those alread:bassist:

I'm pretty comfortable now with my decision to pull back on the hybrid/modern looking Standard with the fancy maple top and transparant burgandy color (I would love to see that with the birdseye on a Modern.. that would be amazing looking). It just didn't feel right to me (again, for me... not that that's not an awesome looking bass).

I really like the slightly 'upgraded' (birdseye board) but otherwise classic J look with the 59 burst and mint guard:hyper:

Hey Tom... per my previous post... I had a very similar bass on order, but just don't like the look for that hybrid J thing... no pickguard, fancy top. That look is fantastic for the Moderns, but something about the Sadowsky Standards just doesn't do it for me (of course, others with disagree). Plus, my Celinders have that somewhat modern update to the J look (although still without the fancy tops and they have 1/2 guards).

Anyway, I could live with any of the above!!!!

Edit: Plus... interestingly (to me anyway!), I always could never figure out what those guys were talking about who complained about too much space between the body and G string for slapping. Well, with my new Modern (which was not bought for that kind of playing, but the way!), I now understand. There is A LOT of space between the G string and body on the Modern (and I assume also the Standard)... it's just a little uncomfortable with my technique (or lack thereof!). I'm definitely not a fan of putting a guard over fancy wood, and I'm not a fan of clear guards... so.... back to the good old Vintage model for me for this round!

OK Jae... you are the man... is that mint versus parchment or mint versus pure white?

And... which do you prefer. Hah! Now that I see the mint right next to the other, I can really see the green tint.... now I'm not sure again!!!!!!!!??????????!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, its MOST DEFINATELY about what you like dude... For certain. I'm not really all about black PG's... Hell, I only own 1 bass that even has a PG, & its not a main player, so....

My key asthetic draw in a bass is, having a nice light/dark contrast. In my minds eye, a birds eye maple neck, screams to have contrast in the body... and, an easy way to do that is a black pg.

And, I just wanted to suggest an alternative.

+1.... so much stuff looks good to me. I posted a while back that prior to my J bass mania when I was a hippie sandwich guy, I always thought guys agonizing over which cheezy plastic pickguard to screw onto a piece of ash was goofy. Well.... now I know:D

yea, in the groups of two, the first bass is always parchment. none of them are pure white or cream, etc. parchment is roger's standard "white" looking guard.

i personally like the mint, just cause it is different and has that patchwork / rock 'n roll look. the parchment is more refined and "finished" looking.

That's kind of what I'm thinking also... the parchment is almost too 'white' and pure looking, at least as McHack pointed out... with a maple board... so... it's still mint/59 burst!

That is exactly what I would order if I were to do a Sadowsky right now. What a great bass for a freelancer - an excellent instrument that will scare nobody! Totally classic.

I have to say also, though, that this one with a flamed top looks good with a tort guard. Better than the regular ash top would look with the tort, IMO:

Cool... the 'not scaring' thing is a positive for me:D

You know, I'm not much for tort on quilted/flame, but that does look very nice. I think my buddy Tom Bowlus has a similar looking bass, and it does look pretty smokin'... just not me, though.

HI

Hey K. I prefer my Sadowskys to have no pickguard, trans colors in most cases, and black hardware along with clear half guards. That being said, I'd go '59 burst, tort guard, either board is cool. LOL!!!!!!!!
