I really liked his playing. Really added that funky bounce to Limp's music. I would not call him underrated- he made the cover of Bass Player Magazine. I feel bad for his family and band mates.

I was so gutted to hear this news last night. Some of Sam Rivers' bass lines were among the first I ever learned on bass. RIP Sam, a legend of a player.

Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit are polarizing, but there is zero doubt that the musicians within that band (guitarist Wes Borland, bassist Sam Rivers, drummer John Otto, turntablist DJ Lethal) were monsters at their craft.

I'm imagining Sam Rivers jamming in the afterlife with Alexi Laiho (another monster musician around my age who was taken way too soon) creating the best music ever.

Significant other came out the year i started playing bass, and Re-arranged is one of the first basslines i learned to play. LB hasn't been my thing for some time now, but this still hits kinda hard. RIP

After a life of heavy drinking he had a liver transplant a few years ago. Don't know if they've announced a cause of death yet but liver disease or complications would be plausible.

My uncle in his 60s had the same transplant about a year ago. Alcohol related. He’s doing OK, but there’s no guarantees, of course.

Awful news. It's been years since I last had any inclination to listen to Limp Bizkit - the stuff that feels profound when you're in high school doesn't always seem so with a few more years of perspective - but he was a talented bassist who really carried some of the songs. I recall "Rearranged" being one of my favorite bass lines back when that album came out.
