I've been intentionally not reading this thread, for fear that it would make me sad to have left the Bay Area. It did. 
Don't have much to add to jazzbo's post. Certainly agree with Greens, Slanted Door, and Millennium (although none of those are "for everyone" so look into them first). Also agreed about downtown...if you're around Fisherman's Wharf, head over to the Ferry Building for casual good eating and people watching. I had a great meal at Gary Danko some years ago (and had the head chef make me something customized), but reservations are a pain. Could certainly go north of $60/person, but fantastic wine and cheese list last time I was there.
For cheap eats, go to the Mission and get a burrito. I suggest Tacqueria Cancun and then ice cream at Mitchell's. Or, stop by Bruno's for a drink & music afterwards. Probably not what you have in mind, but those were some great dates.
