you want low tension, get weedwhacker strings. there's a place in bradenton that makes them. forget their name at the moment. $25 a set, and they do black.

I do like weedwacker strings but they are a bit too low-tension and quiet for me.

VT works fine for active basses Just coz of their higher output U might find the drive reacts earlier & therefore have to turn it down/adjust level accordingly. I use it with both active & passive basses sometimes even in the same song(the Warwick $$ has a push/pull pot for this) & works a treat still!!!!!!

Even with non-active basses, if you switch between basses you will probably have to adjust the drive control, unless they all have similar output levels and sounds. It's a very sensitive pedal!

LOVE the VT pedal. Makes my lightweight Markbass combo think it's a gooey tube amp. Never had it off yet. Everything I wished for that the digital, complicated stuff couldn't deliver.

The deluxe has three settings you can save and select. I believe it is still a analog throughout. I dig the powerful simplicity of the single unit. And those knobs really work.

And not to take it too far off the topic too, but does anyone else have to keep the level knob almost all the way down when playing through an amp? I cant raise it or I get too much output and distortion. I am playing a G&L and those are active and high output but still. When others are saying their level knob is at noon or more, I would blow up my rig. Maybe its just my bass.

My Warwick $$4 has the same issue. It works better in passive mode for some reason, but plugging the bass into the VT, then into the input (even with the pad in) sends a pretty non musical distortion through the GK400RB III when I try to get into the gritty side of things. Putting it through the efx loop fixed the issue though, so that's where I have been using it.
