There are some things machines do better than people. I'm thinking winding strings is one of them.

Besides, they aren't flats, so they are nowhere in the same universe as my idea of a best string.

What makes "handmade" strings superior to those that are wound by a hi-tech computer-controlled precision winder?

Naples is the center of handmade clothing such as men's suits, shirts, ties, shoes, etc. I'm talking $1,000 shoes. So people in Naples will always say handmade is better, for everything.

I do agree some things are better handmade. But bass strings? Not so sure...

I like La Bellas and DRs, both handwound, but I don't know that their quality comes from being handwound. I like Rotos too and they're machine wound.
