I had really fallen in love with my V7, and I had not played my SB5000 very much. I like the more traditional look of the V7 and I do like the preamp now that I have gotten a good idea of how to work it.

My SB5000, however, has a better neck with wider string spacing, a thinner front to back profile, and a very nice satin finish, instead of the V7’s budget gloss finish. I should also note that my Carvin has the most transparent preamp of any bass I have ever owned. It simply adds no color to the tone at all. Transparency, however, is wonderful because the SB5000 serves up gobs of 1970’s style Jazz Bass tone. :D:bassist:

Yes they are!! Not only the slap tone but Im equally impressed with finger style tones. Not too thin like I tend to find some other 70’s spaces pickup placement Jazz basses.

It took me a while to realize it, but the SB500 creates the perfect active Jazz tone to my ears. My search is over. My Geddy is a really nice passive voice. It is certainly beefier than the SB5000 in passive mode.

Is there any difference (aside, obviously, from the extra string) between the SB5000 and SB4000? I've always kinda wanted a 4000, I played a JB4 and thought it felt like the best Jazz I'd ever played (and I briefly owned a US Lakland), and the SBs can be had for crazy good deals now and then. I've never given one much of a test, but the tones you're getting on the 5000 are quite impressive.

I am certain the extra string is the only difference.
