I had really fallen in love with my V7, and I had not played my SB5000 very much. I like the more traditional look of the V7 and I do like the preamp now that I have gotten a good idea of how to work it.
My SB5000, however, has a better neck with wider string spacing, a thinner front to back profile, and a very nice satin finish, instead of the V7’s budget gloss finish. I should also note that my Carvin has the most transparent preamp of any bass I have ever owned. It simply adds no color to the tone at all. Transparency, however, is wonderful because the SB5000 serves up gobs of 1970’s style Jazz Bass tone.
