SBMM Stingray Short scale

The SBMM pickguard is unique. WD make a pickguard for the EB short scale, not the SBMM. The screw and pickup holes line up but the neck pocket area is too small for the SBMM. The taper is wider on the SBMM neck. I bought one and had to file it a lot. If you're not willing to do a lot of hand fitting, you'll need to order a custom one by sending a willing vendor either your pickguard or a tracing of it, per their instructions.

Thanks a lot

That Tort looks sweet on there!

So, how are y'all running your mini-Rays, in terms of settings? I use all three of the pickup selections. Series is great for jazzy walking lines and country/blues/Motown-y fatness, or playing with a pick, single-coil is a killer slap setting with the tone wide open, and parallel for everything else, esp. finger funk w/ the tone rolled off.

At the same time I've found no real use for the boost on the volume knob, and I'd like to replace it with a regular volume pot. I find the tone is more useful and tweak-able at the amp with it pushed in, so that's where I leave it (which is really a bass cut, since the circuit is passive). I've engaged it by accident several times already and don't want to do so on a gig.

How are you using these features? Is the boost a useful tool for you?

My band is a corporate/wedding/club band and we play everything. The boost has become one of my favorite things on this bass because of that. When the band starts getting louder (which it always does), that takes care of it. I know a volume control works too, but this makes it a no brainer. I can leave the volume up all the way and just kick in the boost when needed. I can also cut back quickly when I switch to a pick or want to dig in on a quieter song.

I use all the other settings in accordance to the songs we're doing. I have the selector in the center most of the time.

I got really used to this setup quickly and love it.

Oh yeah... I usually keep the tone rolled off about a 3rd of the way, but like that it gets great sounds at both 0 and 10. I never roll the tone completely off on any other bass, but it works on this.

Should note that I'm going off my experience with the Musicman... but they sound and function almost identically. Haven't used this bass yet with my main band. That'll happen in 2 weeks.

I was encouraged after reading @kraken_kr’s post, but I just received an email from Guitar Center today to let me know that they can’t predict when they’ll have stock to ship. They definitely must have done something right.

There's a used one on reverb today, blue/maple, if you are tryin' to get your hands on one sooner rather than later.

Mine finally landed today (Daphne Blue) after being back ordered for 4 weeks from Guitar Center. Sadly, no gig bag to report, however I'm impressed w/ this little bass, and I know my shoulder and back are already thanking me - coming in at 8.2 lbs. on my digital scale. The set up and action was surprisingly good out of the box - so I think all I need is to change the strings to DR's, slap some strap locks on - and she should be good to go. I give it a big thumbs up, great value, and definitely sounds like my American SR5.

Congrats on your new instrument! Sounds like a winner. Mine's on the way.

How is the neck balance?
