SBMM Stingray Short scale

So precision emailed me this morning and apparently has a SBMM control plate cut for me as well as one for my EBMM. So fingers crossed he sends me the payment request on reverb so I can pay him and get this show on the road. I was originally gonna have him cut a new SBMM guard too but I’m worried adding anything to the order will delay it further so gonna go ahead and wait on that. Ahhhhh can’t wait. I hope it arrives before I move :/

Got a tracking number! Dude actually came through! Can barely believe it. finally!

Thinking about picking up a SBMM Ray34 Stealth to swap my chrome SBMM hardware with and resell. The loss would probably be the same as paying to have my bridge replated anyways.

Took the 'Ray to practice earlier, playing around with a new song we dropped the bottom E string - we already play half a step down, so it was down to C#. I was surprised how well the stock strings took it - all things considered, it was reasonably tight, and had a lot of clarity especially in lower positions. It felt better than the .107 Boomer string on my Mustang in the same tuning.

I have a habit of cranking mids on my preamp, and I use a Rat with quite a lot of high mids present, but I forget how much that pickup has baked into the sound. Whether series or parallel, listening back it almost sounded quite honky. Need to remind myself that I don't need to boost those frequencies to hear myself with this bass!

That’s good to hear I’m setting my SBMM with some .50-.110’s from StringJoy’s all tuned whole step down next week after the Stealth StingRay I ordered to strip for parts arrives! Lol

Have to say, I've really liked all the strings I've ever got from StringJoy. They do good work, and the customer service has also been excellent. The strings I've had from them have been just the right blend of mellow and crisp, with a very long life.

Yea ordering for them has been amazing so I am hoping I like their strings! Once DR gets their stock back of short scale black beauties I’d be interested to see how they feel/sound on one of these bad boys. Just got this in the mail for the SBMM

Man putting the pink pearloid pickguard on has made me want an all maple fretboard for this bass even more than before.

The only thing holding me back from buying a second one to swap is I feel like January is probably when they’ll announce next years color options

Are those heavy SS strings already on the bass in this photo? If so, it looks like it bare fit the saddle of the low E or did you have to file it down to fit it?

Nah they’re not on yet. Gonna have them put on this Monday when I’m having the wiring and pots upgraded to US spec ones. I decided not to replace the pickup as I like the way it sounds and how hot it is.

I agree with that, the pickup is one of the major selling points of the bass imo. I'm starting to find I can incorporate switching between series & parallel in songs now, which is great. Much prefer singlecoil at home to playing in a band mix, though.

You'll have to let us know how those strings are downtuned. I'm really quite used to the stock strings now, but might be nice to get a bit of a heavier set on.

yea I got the strings originally just for the down tuned instrument but I’m really tempted to throw them on the standard tuned instrument as well because although I have no complaints about the stock strings the extra tension might be nice.
