SBO 2022 Casino Game Kit

I'm building a set of matching hollow archtops. The body size will be similar to that of a Gibson Casino, so I can purchase off-the-shelf cases, but they will be single cuts.

Tops will be vacuum formed laminated maple veneer.

I will try to improve upon the no-mold / internal frame build method that I tried in the last WBO. If the build method works out again, I may consider making kits for others to assemble and finish.

I will purchase Gibson scale necks at Solo Music Gear. I'll start by building a 6 string guitar and a 4 string sub-short scale bass. We all know that I make stuff up as I go along, so stay tuned for other ideas. My single entry for all matching instruments is in the non-bass category, in case a bass is not one of those that crosses the finish line.

Design motifs may be based on casino games as an homage to the Gibson Casino semi-hollow archtop.

Yes, I love it. However the judges were less than amused and I'm afraid the entry has been DQ'd on this technicality.

I've spent a couple of hours cutting enough maple veneer with alternating grains to produce 6 panels (3 bodies). I'll start on the vacuum forming tomorrow. I can only form one panel a day. So for the next week, this thread will be as exciting as watching wood bend, unless, of course, the regular goof-balls stage a thread hi-jack.

A crease developed near the tail of the panel. I know that it will eventually be flattened and covered with one more ply, so it's no big deal.

Just to prove that an old dog can learn new tricks.... After I build the hollow bassVI in my avatar and another hollow archtop that is 18" across the lower bout, I couldn't find an off-the-shelf case to fit. This time, I have bought the case before finalizing the size, shape and thickness.

I went shopping for some dyed veneers to make things more interesting. And I dug out a couple of 30" scale necks that might come in handy for the project.

Very nice, how long are those veneers? I've been trying to find them longer than 36", but life is just so hard.

They are from roarockit.ca . Most of their sheets are available in 34" or 47" lengths. These are 34. If you are looking for coloured sheets in 47", they show as being out of most colours. They should have maple and bamboo in both sizes.
