I had these left over from a previous build. I tested on some of the dye veneers, but it turns out that the red dye wasn't as stable as the rest. Note to self... Test ALL colours of dyed veneers. From now on, I'll avoid water based when working with dyed veneers.

Yeah, the stain-finish interaction would have been my next question, because that can be tricky with water-based stuff.
I'm glad you used sanding sealer that "enhances color" on the most colourful guitars of the build-off

Nope, too late. I'd have to sand it off and refinish it with a different product. In the pictures with the red inlays, look for areas with a faint blush. I'm just going to live with it for now.

Edit - there is a picture in the next post. You can see the blush between the club and the heart, above the neck pick-up.

I just bought a roll of black dyed veneer and never thought to test it before using it.
Probably because I've never used it before and I'm just thinking about how I want to use it in a build.
Now I can act like I'm smart and thought to test it first.

All pickups make noise through an amp in all or the expected switch and pot positions. Assembly has already started. Expect some pictures this evening

Two of them are assembled and coarsely intonated. I will finish the set-up after they have been under tension for a couple of days.

The other guitar is assembled and up to pitch. I still need to fabricate and slot a nut, set it

up, and make knobs from dice.

This is my submission in the non-bass category. I'm including the two hollow archtop guitars with laminated veneer tops and bottoms. Both are in the general shape of the Casino bodies except with a single Florentine cutaway. Both have dual humbuckers and Gretsch wiring. Both neck pockets meet fender specs, so neck swaps are possible. Both motifs are inspired by M.C. Escher tessellated patterns.

Beyond the veneer motifs, there are a few notable differences:

Blue/orange/yellow has veneer sides and a reclaimed neck from an imported economy S-type guitar.

Green/black/natural has tolex sides and a purchased neck.

Update - As of yesterday (Christmas) the blue and yellow archtop and the case are in the hands of my Ukrainian friend. I made a couple of skateboards for his kids too.
