Honestly I understand why you want to tune it the way you do but why not buy a 5 string? Not metally enough?
Go against the flow!
Also before I bought new there are many many basses barely used of a much greater bargain on CL and FB marketplace. Here in Florida for $ 3-400.00 I could have my selection of the equivalent of what your looking at for half price.

I don't really understand why all of a sudden everyone likes passive. I remember active being very popular. I mean I don't plan on doing any recording. I'm basically getting back into it after 5 or so years. Guess I don't need an expensive monster of a guitar.
I found the right passive pickups. And even on my active basses, I found I never touched the tone controls.

Ok everyone finally found something. Went in the opposite direction lol. Settled on a Sterling Stingray w/Mahogany body, roasted maple neck and rosewood fretboard. Only 21 fret but that's fine. Thanks for all the advice and help.

I've always liked Ibanez better than Schecter when it comes to actually playing and enjoying the instrument. Something about the feel and the sound. I traded my last Schecter in for an Ibanez SR505 years ago and never missed it. Have to say the Apocalypse looks pretty sweet though.

There's nothing wrong with tuning a four-string down to BEAD, I did it for a long time, but I'll echo what others have said about going for the 5-string. Moving from four to five is not a big adjustment and you might end up liking the extra flexibility.

Edit - just saw the above post, good luck with your Sterling

These style pickups arent common together but sound really good and are very versatile.

I've looked. Spent the last week doing that. Found a Spector Legend 5-string but the person wouldn't take 500. He'd paid 900 something originally.

Yes, I did have one of those but returned it because even tho it was new it had some minor cosmetic issues including the serial number sticker or stamp being blurred a little. That and wanted to stay away from basswood. I thought it was expensive for what it was (480) Great bass though. Light and looks good. I do like the P/J style pickups. I settled on a used Sterling Stingray Stealth in the end with mahogany and dual humbucker MM pickups. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I don't know.. I watched a youtube vid of the stealth and then the Sterling Stingray. The Schecter stealth sounded flat and less rounded. Probably because the Sterling is mahogany and the stealth basswood.
Basswood tends to give a rounder tone and mahognay a bit sharper. My ibanez is mahogany. Either way it's all very slight. 95 percent electronics/5 percent bass materials at most.
