Is it the one worh the p and music man style pickups? That's a different animal. It does sound nice though.
Yes. That was the main reason I bought that bass, with the second being the 35" scale. The neck feeling great is just a bonus.
I was playing in a kind of thrashy/nu metal type thing a few years ago and need a 5-string. I liked the P-bass split coil sound but it can be a little wooly if you're looking for a tighter shape. My 4-string Ibanez was two humbuckers and had nice definition.
So when I saw the Schecter had both and used a blend knob, I bought one sight unseen and hit the jackpot.
The ability to get that full metal/heavy rock tone from the split coil is great, but that big humbucker lets you fatten things up without losing definition. I was also tuning down, so maintaining definition down at F# really helped.
And the four string Ibanez went bye bye. Schecter stayed.

The basswood vs. mahogany thing baffles me though. You're playing an electric bass, not a xylophone.
You're going through an amp and cab, possibly some effects. Nobody is going to hear the non-ferrous wood through the magnetic pickups, through the preamp, through the amp and cab, over the drummer and guitar(s)
Enjoy the MM.
