Schecter Diamond P 5 (NBD)

After playing around with it for a few here's a quick report.

First off its in good condition with a nice set up.

Definitely needs a 3 string tree. I get a bit of vibration on the A. The nut looks good so I think pinning that guy down a bit will help.

The tone knob is junk lol as ive been reading. Prolly will work fine but changing that may be in my future.

B is a little floppy, will stringing it through the body help? It's not bad but better is better :)

Love the sound. Will have to play with it some to figure out how I like it best when playing with others, but its much punchier than my muddy Dean.

Neck has a bit more dive than I'm used to, a decent strap will prolly help.

Love the feel of the neck and the way it plays.

Other than the neck dive it sits well, doesn't feel incredibly heavy to me.

Overall I'm super happy with it!

Strange hearing neck dive stories about that bass. I'm slightly bulkier than a de-meated skeleton and mine never dove. Usually it's the skinnies that have dive issues with their basses.

Unless you're referring to dive while seated. That ain't dive. IMO of course. I never had any issues with the tone control either. The only complaint I ever had with mine was I felt the bridge pup to be a little on the thin-sounding side.

Sorry to hear about the bass not really working out for you. I haven't heard that before.

jlepre: Did you have the boominess issue pre-flat installation?

Not sure that it won't work. A different strap should help.

It's definitely got some neck dive as is but I have a pretty weak strap on it.

The pups are different than used to so I can't complain too much about them yet. I might have some mods done to get more control over them but not right now. The tone knob just doesn't seem to do what I want. It seems to be rolled one way or another without a lot of middle ground. Mind you this is after 30 min of playing so I may change my mind

I'm happy with it so far tho

I love the bass, but its a different type of monster, I find it a big and heavy (based on where I'm used to) IMHO.

I mentioned this before in this thread...but just for those coming on and checking out the later pages check out the Mono Betty strap...It really keeps the neck in whatever position you choose.

Well my other Diamond P is at the shop getting Fralin pickups installed and a Nordstrand pre.

Should be picking it up for the end of the week right in-time to gig...Looking forward to some A/B-ing

Can't wait to hear about it. Got my AEB in the shop atm so I feel your pain. Guess I'll just have to play the p5 :D

Played it for about 7 hours yesterday a new strap is in order for sure. Might order one tonight. Still waiting for a three string tree and strap locks (almost dropped it yesterday but because of the diving neck I was holding it pretty well. Whew)

Love the sound for sure, but still playing with it to get it how I like it

I have to say that I'm pretty stoked on my other bass have the Fralins.

They are significantly more transparent and do not have that gangish mids that the native ceramics have.

Its an apples/oranges thing...Just different, you can really hear how overwound the ceramics are next to these.

Its good to have a slightly different flavor, I'm pretty stoked and at this time I like both.

NOTE: Both of these basses have the same strings & pre-amp in them so its really just the pickups that are different.

Nice! I bet the variety available between the two is excellent.

Edit: Sorry about that poorly constructed sentence.

LOL If from native Bostonian...You should see how I butcher the English Language.

But yes its nice, I like have 2 basses set up the same for live use...It makes it so much easier if there is an issue.

Even though the OP sold or is selling his, I figured I could finish the report I was giving on this bass in this thread ;)

Didn't take much to get the sound I wanted actually. The neck dive I was experiencing is gone with the mono Bette strap. Good recommendation thx!

Ended up putting nickel lowriders strung through the body on and that helped a lot.

Still had some issues with the E and B being real boomy and the rest sounding weak no matter how I played with the controls. Adjusting the hight of the pickups solved this for me. Moved the neck pup down more so on the E&B side but moved it down all the way across to help avoid grounding the strings to the poles. Moved the bridge pup up all the way across the strings.

Love the sound now with the bridge pup split and rolled on about 60% and the neck pup full. Tone knob rolled up about 60% as well.

With this set up I can get real nice mellow tones with a light touch around the neck and real aggressive punchy tones between the pups and a real harsh tone with a heavy attack right over the bridge pup.

At some point I will likely still change the direction of the bridge split to see how I like it. Very happy with the sounds this thing is making right now, and I really enjoy having a low B ;)

Yeah its a bummer that it DP5 didn't work out for JP.
I hope He checks out a couple of the other models that have a tighter string spacing thats closer to his MM.

Glad that suggestion worked out for you.
I love those straps.

I actually bought a Squier VM V and have been really enjoying it so far. Gigged it a couple times, and it really feels good for me. Plus I like the looks of it as well. Oh and sub $300 was a real bonus.

Stoked for You J...

I wish my technique landed itself to playing 5 Sting Js.

If they did I probably would not own any other kind of 5 (at this point lol).

Yeah scored one used of eBay <$30 shipped so I was happy. I know some were surprised to hear about the neck dive. I do like my neck at a higher angle than some, but it was definitely diving.

I like the spacing on the strings myself. I can dig in and pop or slap if needed, and I can still get to all 5 strings pretty quick. Still getting used the fret size lol.
